I recently bought a 1987 D-25 Guitar form this business,New Hope Guitar Traders. I spoke to Jay Pilzer the owner and he said this guitar was in good condition with no issues. I paid $725.00 for this guitar including shipping. When I received this guitar it had quite a few issues. The headstock was cracked at the base and the neck was crack from the nut down toward the body about three inches. This crack was wide and could be seen on both sides of the neck. These were old cracks and they were not done in shipping. I am sorry that I done bussiness with him. I have paid out another 200.00 dollars trying to get this neck fixed. It will never be right. I will not personally do bussiness again with this company . Thank You.

Wow! Very sorry to hear of your troubles... I've had good experiences with Jay. I bought a very nice G37 from him a few weeks ago. All it really needed was a minor setup. Did you ask him if he'd take it back?

Hello kinchen,

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience in dealing with Jay at New Hope Guitar Traders.
However, I have a hard time believing that Jay deliberately tried to sell you a bad guitar,
I've known Jay for about 20 years and it doesn't sound like him.
We all make mistakes and if this was a mistake on his side, I would think that Jay would have had no problems taking the guitar back or make up for it. Did you try to sort it out with him?

It takes a long time for somebody to build up a good reputation but it's very easy to undo all that with a 'bad deal' story.

Without hearing Jay's story about what happened, I won't change my mind about somebody who in my opinion has always been a fair businessman.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

Hi kinchen; sorry about your guitar. Did you talk this over with New Hope before having work done on it? New Hope and its principal are very well-regarded by many BB members here. I don't know anything more than you've told us but it seems to me that flaming New Hope here, while gratifying in the short term, isn't going to do any good in the long term.

Never heard anything bad about New Hope or Jay Pilzer, quite the contrary actually.

I hope you have tried to deal with him about the guitar before having it repaired or posting what you just did.

Must be some failure to communicate, seems to me. Many of us have had excellent dealings with Jay on the buy and sell sides. I'm surprised to hear of your disappointment, and I hope you'll be able to find common ground.

Seems to me that the first thing I would have done is call or email New Hope and open up a dialog about this. I've never dealt with them personally, but all the discussion I've seen has been positive. I have a hard time believing that any store with a reputation to protect wouldn't make good on the sale.

So. . .did you contact them? If so, what did they say?

Ditto to all the responses here. Jay is a stand up guy & a very reputable business man. I don't believe he would try to conceal any issues on purpose. Communicating directly with him on this matter is a must!

Good luck!
