Yeah, I know, ya'll are likely tired of me posting now and then about non Guild gear. In my defense, I've gotten on a Martin Custom Shop kick lately.

I know I posted about my Bubinga Martin and I think my Tamo Ash Martin as well. Here's one I hadn't mentioned yet. It's a highly quilted Maple Martin Custom Shop job with a bear claw Spruce top that looks pretty interesting. No worries, this will likely be my last post about non Guild gear for a bit. And yes, before anyone chimes in, the burst is not as nice as a Guild burst but on this one I think it works to show off the bear claw pretty well.

I thought I'd do a brief follow up report on this one.

Maple has become my most favorite tonewood and not by just a little. I love the crispness and clarity of a fine Maple guitar.I have a Gibson SJ 200 Std. that I really love a lot. Yeah, I know there are a lot of Gibson haters here and folks that detest the moustache bridge but frankly Scarlett, I don't give a damn. I like it a lot. I will say that I think My Guild F 50's are every bit as good at a lot less money. You just can't beat the thump and growl of an arched back F 50, at least i don't think so.

So, the Martin here that I posted pics of arrived and I've had time to bond with it. I have to say, it is exceptional and worth the money I think. It's feather light. A couple of times now I had to open the case and make sure there was a guitar inside. It just felt like an empty case. And the sound/tone, intensity, sustain, clarity and most every other adjective I can think of is there in spades. It will never be a replacement for my F 50's but it's a very nice complement to my stable of Maple acoustics.

Enough about non Guilds but I just wanted to say, it is a really nice guitar.

i always wanted a Gibson Dove. they just look cool.
glad maple is your tonewood of choice. i like what you say about it. as i get older, maybe i need to consider maple as a b/s tonewood. crispness and clarity you say and so do many others.

I like stained woods, thinking I want to do a pine bodied guitar in spalted forest green to remind me of my truck racks. It's a lot easier than you think. Take oil based paint, rub it in to the wood, wipe it off, let it dry, it's that easy and spectacular.

Here is the moth, Lepidoptera. Maybe my meds are working too good but I plainly see the wings, the antennae, and even what looks like a big fat swollen body below.

Oh yes, now I see it - wish I hadn’t! Regardless, maple is my favorite tonewood as well. The percussive quick-decay attack is perfect for my fingerpicking style. Please, no sustain & no notes slopping around together as they try to find their way out of the guitar!

Beautiful instrument, Richard - Congrats again.

Oh, by the way, Richard... The look of figured maple is just to die for... Nothing really compares. Sound-wise, though, my ears tend to favor rosewood most of the time.

In any case, glad you're digging that Martin.
