It's been more than 5 years since our two dogs died, and finally we were ready for another.

This is Wilma.
She is a Danish-Swedish farm dog, 10 weeks old.
A small dog with a big personality.
Behind that innocent looking face is a maniac, but also an angel.
She is smart, and her energy level is amazing for such a small dog.

We were very lucky to get her.
For some reason the ongoing pandemic has created a dog frenzy, everybody wants a puppy now.
As a result a quite unhealthy market for puppies has emerged.
Before being accepted we had to audition and be evaluated by the breeder and her family and her other dogs, and there were more than 80 people in line for 3 puppies.

Our cat is not entirely thrilled.

Very attentive eyes. She looks adorable. Let us know how the cat gets along with her.

So cute!

We had the same experience with high demand for puppies when we bought ours a couple of weeks ago... I just hope all these buyers are being responsive!

Are you going to work with her? Or will she "just" be a completition to your family?

She's beautiful! Being a Corgi fancier, I know about the big do in a small package thing, too.

Congrats!

You wouldn't believe the checks we've had to go through to adopt Newfoundlands. Sully they pretty much just gave away. That should have been a red flag. :)

As for the pandemic puppies, don't get me started. I worry about all the puppies bought by those who worked from home for a year that will leave them home alone when they go back to work. Backyard breeders and puppy mills make me angry to begin with, but taking advantage of the pandemic puppy demand is a new low.

When $$ are involved, for some no low is too low. And that's a real shame.

Ohhhhhh... That's wonderful, Beinhard. What a beautiful pup.

Your kitty will (eventually) get used to having her around!

The same thing here in Southern Nevada! Everyone wants puppies and kittens and there aren't enough to go around. Normally, you'd think that was a good thing, but I wonder what the eventual outcome will be. Our friend Michelle and her husband wanted a puppy or two and she ended up driving to Southern California down near San Diego after applications and background checks and then spent a FORTUNE on two pups who's litter were brought over the border from Mexico because that's the only place they could get them! Crazy. And they're okay dogs, not purebred, but Lab-ish, but when she got there there were people lined up to take these dogs home. Strange times.

Super cute pup you got!! I like her!! (y)

Thanks for all the nice comments, this is such a friendly place!
I came here for guitar talk, but love to read about and see pictures of your dogs or cats or horses or birds or ...

Since some of you asked: (Wilma is asleep, so now I have time to write)

The Danish-Swedish farm dog is, as you might guess, a breed that used to be common on farms in Denmark and southern Sweden.
They are relatively small, typically 30-35cm shoulder height and around 10kg.
Traditionally they were working dogs, used as guard dogs and rat catchers, to herd animals and be family companions.

The situation with Bella the cat is still a bit tense.
Not real aggression, they just don't quite understand each other yet.
Bella is old and likes peace and quiet, but Wilma insists on trying to play with her.
When she gets no response from the cat, Wilma will start yelling and jumping around, then Bella gets annoyed and tries to chase the noisy troublemaker away, and that of course makes Wilma even more excited.

We had no specific plans for Wilma other than to be a family member and to accompany me on hiking trips in the mountains and forests, but after getting to know her we have started thinking.
She learns so fast, and has this attitude of "Hey, I want to DO something. Show me, teach me, I will do it!"
Of course, the flip side of that is "I'm bored! You didn't give me anything to do so I'll just go and chew on something valuable."
We will need something to keep that head busy.
