First, a shout out to Gary for fixing my registration that got buggered up some how...Thanks
I’ve been playing guitar forever.....Ya, I’m old... I'm proof that playing for years does not necessarily make you a great player, but I have fun
I’m primarily an electric player, Fender and Gretschs but I have always owned at least one acoustic since I bought my first good guitar in 74’ an Ovation Balladeer that I still have. I told you I was old.
I’ve been on a Bluegrass kick for the last year. I saw Doc Watson and his son in 71’ and have loved his style ever since.
I just got my first Guild, a D40E. I have wanted one for years but I was always a bit nervous considering the different incarnations there have been. I do find it interesting that Guild was located in the same building that Ovation started in at one point. As for acoustics I currently have the Ovation, a ProLine Takamine and a Martin D15M...The Martin will be sold now that I have the Guild.
Impressions
plusses:
beautiful, I love the look and feel of thin nitro satin finish
Fantastic shaped neck, it is a somewhat full C shape that I like.
beautifully finished fret work
Tone is full and rich, but I’m hoping it opens up a bit more with age
The tone through my Fishman Loud Box Mini Charge is very nice.
Nonpluss
The finish had 5 or 6 spots where dust particles landed while drying. You could not really see them, but when your hand went across them it was very apparent. I enjoy working on my guitars so I enjoyed the challange. 3,000 grit quality wet dry sandpaper placed on a popsicle stick with double stick tape took the imperfections right out. I followed that with a 12,000 grit micro mesh pad. It turned out beautiful.
