Hi Jeff; I saw part of it ... one of the local PBS stations was using it as a fund-raiser. Not a puff piece ... when Young was asked about his post-early 70s 'restless' musical style, he said; 'I didn't want to do any more sensitive stuff ... ". So dismissive towards the work cherished by two generations. And nobody could accuse him of being overly friendly: "... people either like me or they don't ... " It was very Neil Young ... starkly honest.

... he could use some help with his dance steps ...

... Always admired Neil's contributions to acoustic music...
Me too Ken; as a body of music, hardly anything better. I have a soft spot in my heart for CinnGirl ... just can't help it. In retrospect, considering both his remarks in the PBS broadcast and his cave-man 'dance' steps in the linked vid above, it's possible to see all that tromping around almost as sarcastic parody ... his answer to his agent, the promoters, or the public wanting him to move around a little more on stage. 'Ya want me to move? Ok, I'll move ... like that better?'

His baby may love to dance, but it isn't clear that he does ...

I'm also a huge Neil Young fan--great great songs. Unfortunately, I didn't get to see the documentary, but I'll be sure to check it out.

My wife who never grew up listening to American classic rock was never really exposed to it like we are in the States. It's been fun introducing her to music I grew up with on nearly every other channel of the radio, let alone my records, tapes, and yes, 8-tracks. The latest was actually Neil Young's "Harvest" -- one of my faves. It's been fun for me to retell all the lore, legend, and trivia surrounding the artists and music that we used to tell each other about as teens. Of course, I had to tell her the legendary Neil Young story below (sorry to those who have heard it a gazillion times).

Graham Nash has told the story in interviews where Neil rowed him out on the lake at his ranch to hear some new music. As it happens, Neil had his house wired as the left speaker, and his barn wired as the right speaker. When his longtime engineer yelled, "How is it?," Neil shouted back. "More barn!"

Yes John ,that story appears to be true and it's cited in many books and interviews.
I started playing guitar as a teenager and besides the Beatles, Stones, Who, Led Zep and many others one of my greatest inspirations came from Neil: I litterally consumed my vinyl copies of Harvest,After The Gold Rush and Everybody Knows..., then C.S.N.& Y.,and all solo Neil records...
I studied and read a lot about Neil's life, one of the best books I read about him is SHAKEY by Jimmy Mc Donough: lots of information, interviews with the man himself and the key figures ( like the late David Briggs) who were besides him in the genesis of so many great songs and productions.

May not cut a mean rug, but sure does justice to that guitar.
Hi Fab; CinnGirl, Cowgirl, and Down By The River all really strong stuff ... and all from the same guy who could write and sing: "...Is it hard to make arrangements with yourself, When you're old enough to repay but young enough to sell?" ... I was in Charlottesville VA in the early 70s; everywhere you went it was Neil Young's work; the bands at fraternity or town and gown parties knocking out Springfield/Crazy Horse material and in the coffeehouses it was Young's acoustic work or CSN&Y stuff. In the PBS vid; David Crosby called him: '... a force of nature...'. Well I guess ... John

Gotta love that man! Too bad I missed the documentary. I always thought he was a really interesting guy.
I never got into his heavier stuff though. I like the acoustic and folk rock stuff a lot (Harvest, After The Gold Rush, etc). Off Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere I only really liked the title track, Down By The River, and Cowgirl In The Sand. But I can certainly appreciate all of his work. A true legend.
