My 1960 Starfire III just arrived, and survived 8 days in cold weather in the UPS system unscathed. I left it packed for 2 days to let is slowly warm up. That was patience!

It came with flatwound 11's on it and I replaced them with 10's D'Adarrio's which is what I am use to. Now I need to adjust the neck to get a bit of a bow in it to eliminate some string rattle.

I am not sure how to approach this with this guitar. I have done Fenders and other guitars, but this looks to be different. Under the truss plate on the headstock I see a nut on a threaded rod. Do I simply turn the nut either way to adjust, or is there something else to do?

Graham, do you know which way you turn the nut to let the neck have more bow?

I went ahead and ran it counterclockwise to loosen the tension and it worked just great, bowed up just a tad. I have a .016" gap at the 7th fret using a straighedge, and the buzzing is gone. Plays great. Guild necks - nothing as good.

Thx.
