Hi All,

Been quite awhile, though lurking. I did buy that '73 F 512 with the truss rod cracks that some were talking about a few weeks ago.

The luthier I usually use looked at it and doesn't want to do anything now. It does need a neck reset (which I figured) and at that point the truss rod cracks can easily be repaired as an addendum. He wasn't that concerned about them, except that he won't do a Guild neck reset. Evidently Guild resets are a bit more complex than Martin or Gibson.

So my question is this, does anyone know a really good luthier that will do an old Guild neck reset? Maybe I should call Gruhn and see if they will do it. Maybe Dudley's guy is up to the task. Or maybe the new facility at CT will give it a shot. Or should I call up Carlo's shop in NYC?

Any suggestions? The guitar sounds awesome, just totally blows away the other 12 strings I have tried. Just plays a bit high even a full step down right now, and will play higher down the road.

I had the necks on both of by Guild acoustics reset.

The one thing I learned that may be of value is that a Guild neck joint is identical to a Gibson neck joint. I've been told that a person experienced with Gibson neck resets could easily do a Guild reset.

According to their website, Gryphon no longer accepts shipped guitars for repair:

"Sorry, but I can't accept repair work by shipment.
These days, our shop is so busy trying to keep up with our
local customers, we simply can't take on repairs from
outside the area. I'm always happy to evaluate repairs or
restoration when you bring your instrument in to Gryphon"

A good reason to visit the Bay area...

Gardman: Did not know Gryphon wasn't accepting shipped in repairs!

Here's another great techie who can do the job. He's been my techie for the past 25 yrs (Satriani too). Highest recommendation!

I had nothing to do with this thread previously, but thanks for that David Bland at Siesta Key Guitars link; he's close enough he may be of use to me. :D
