I've really been enjoying the new album by Los Lobos, Native Sons. It is an album of cover songs that reflect the musical influences on band members as they were growing up in East LA and during the early years of the band in the 1970's. The music styles range from Rock & Roll, Soul, R&B, Blues, Rockabilly, Funk and Latin Rhumbas. The band stays faithful to the original arrangements with their always excellent musicianship, but each song also has the Los Lobos imprint. And there are a few songs that may surprise you. Check it out.

As an aside, I remember when a lot of these songs were initially released by the original artists. I guess that makes me the same age as the guys in the band.

Los Lobos is a national treasure. I first saw them in the early ‘80’s; opening for the then red hot Blasters. I went in a Blasters fan and left a Los Lobos fan for life. David Hildago is a monster, monster guitarist, as well as playing several other instruments effectively.
I agree, the new album is great. Viva Los Lobos!

Will have to check this album out. I first got into them with their tune I Got Loaded featured in Costner's "Rain Out" scene in the film Bull Durham. I went right out and bought How Will The Wolf Survive and loved the entire album! It's still my fav record of theirs. Looking forward to checking this one out. 👍🏻

I saw Los Lobos a couple weeks ago. Just as great a band as they've always been. Loose, powerful and soulful. Among the many great songs they played: Kiko and the Lavender Moon. That album gets my vote for one of the most interesting experiment in roots rock ever. What a treat!

We've seen them many times, including several shows at The Ram's Head in Annapolis, a small venue.

For one of those shows, David Hidalgo became ill and had to leave tour just before the Annapolis date. They played a set of Los Lobos material, took a break, and came back out and played a "world's best cover band in a bar" set and absolutely killed it. For the first time in my life I truly understood what "the joint was jumpin'" meant.
