The current Doyle Dykes Signature Model is available since December 2012, and features an solid AAA-grade red spruce top and AAA quilted big-leaf maple back and sides with a tinted natural gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The look and sound of this guitar is simply stunning.

Now master luthier Ren Ferguson and the team at Guild's New Hartford factory just finished two new prototypes for Doyle, one is basically the existing signature model DD-6MC but now with a nice sunburst finish!
The second prototype has again a natural top but comes with Rosewood back and sides, model number DD-6RC.
Both are planned for mass production in New Hartford in future.

Doyle played all 3 models multiple times on stage during NAMM. He also used a 12 string F-212XL CE STD on stage, and no words can describe the sound that he creates with those guitars!

Here are some pictures I took:
Doyle Dykes and Chris Middaugh (Guild Product Manager) with the two prototypes. And the label of the Rosewood DD-6RC.

The sunburst prototype looked different again depending on the light.

Now all the talk and pictures can't give you an idea how great that Rosewood prototype sounded!
Just have a listen to the DD-6RC Rosewood prototype: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhJ1AjhzLEs

Here's a video with the Sunburst DD-6MC prototype:

And some with the current production model of the Doyle Dykes Signature Model:

Hearing Doyle playing was a highlight of NAMM for me!
And as soon as he started playing the area around the stage was packed with people.

It's always a treat to hear Doyle Dykes play.

I'm not too surprised that his guitar sounds good, but what amp was he using? I tried one of the new Fender Acoustasonic amps and it didn't sound anything like that.

a lot to do with the pedal board....
The two amplifiers he had connected were a new '65 Princeton Reverb Amp with a 10" Jensen® C-10R speaker and a new Acoustasonic 100 combo.

And thanks to Bill Ashton's picture from LMGIII I can confirm that he used that exact pedal board again.

It had following components on it:
A TC Electronics Polytune,
an old red Boss Delay DM-3,
a T-Rex Room-mate Reverb box,
a Roland RE-20 Space Echo/BOSS Twin Pedal,
a TC Electronics SCF Stereo Chorus Flanger (with the two outputs to the two amps)
and a Voodoo Lab Pedal Power 2 Plus Universal Power Supply.

Welcome to LTG! There is one shop on ebay saying they have some on order: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Guild-Doyle-Dyk ... 23284bbe60
But one of our trusted LTG members owns a shop and he has sold to other LTG members successfully in the past and is very trusted here. It's our member "Bing k", who owns Guitars of Montana.
He posted in this discussion, it is always worth to ask him privately regarding availability and ask him for an offer if you are interested.

I have to say that this F-47MC also sounds great in his hands!
Always great to hear him play! Enjoy!

What a coup having DD on our "side." A little ironic, don't you guys think? Gibson's master luthier working at Guild to set up Mr. DD with a really cool sig. model... Wonder what Mr. Taylor is thinking these days?. :)

I think he's doing just fine. He hired Andy Powers to reinvent their lines and to prepare for the future. They have plenty of artists that are supported by Taylor. Also he's still busy with the Ebony factory in Cameroon that eventually will supply many US guitar and instrument makers I guess. So yes, Doyle was for sure a big loss to Taylor but I don't think in general it would have a big downward influence on their numbers, except the sales numbers of the Taylor DD signature model.

Thanks for the welcome, and the information. My current favorite guitar in my personal inventory is a Lowden O25c. It's a big bodied, big necked beauty, and I LOVE that sound, but lately I've developed severe discomfort in my fretting hand, wrist, and forearm that forces me to stop playing very often; on some days finishing a song without a break is a challenge.

I've had the good fortune to see Doyle's Guilds up close and personal, and we've spoken at length on numerous occasions about guitar in general, and Guilds in particular. I had an F-47 RC in my hands a couple of weeks ago, and I liked the way if felt.

I'm definitely moving in the direction of a DD sig model, although I'll probably have to sell the Lowden first, or a couple of others in the collection to ensure my own "domestic tranquility". I'll be sure to check out Guitars of Montana too. Thanks!

At the risk of being a wet blanket why in God's Holy Name would they cut a HOLE in the side? Aren't there awesome pickups that exit through the strap pin area? Did I miss a memo? Someone sort me out 'cause I must be off the reservation!

Some guys don't mind a door in the side of the guitar, but they sure turn me off. I don't even like the Taylor practice of knobs out the side of the upper bout. There's just no need to make those holes in the guitar and for sure, 20-30 years from now when the electronics are dated and/or shot, somebody will regret those openings ever having been made. On guitars like my F212XLCE the controls jus inside the sound hole work just fine, are almost invisible, and can be removed with no damage. Makes much more sense, to me anyway.

It's Doyle's choice. He likes having the controls available to him, and he's partial to those electronics. I guess if you're gonna' build a signature model you go with what the artist wants.

Doyle's a converted 'leccie.... well, I'm not sure how converted he really is. ;)

Good point! But Ren Ferguson built the guitar exactly to Doyle Dykes' specifications. Doyle wanted it that way with the L.R. Baggs Pickup/Preamp System. On stage he playes with the settings. He obviously always plays that guitar amplified anyway, so the possible little loss in acoustic sound due to that big hole is no problem to him I think.

While my F412 has the D-Tar system, with the little knobs inside the sound hole,
I also have several guitars with "barn door" electronics. They came that way new. The looks don't bother me, and being over 60, I don't really care if the electronics are obsolete in 20 years. That being said, if I bought a new acoustic with no electronics,
I wouldn't cut a hole in the side, I would probably go minimal, like a K & K system, but I'm no Doyle Dykes.
Interesting sidebar; I saw Doyle a few years ago in Nashville. He was one of several artists who were playing that night. My wife is NOT a guitar geek like me, but when he walked out on stage, she said, "that's Doyle Dykes, right?" I said "yes,
how did you know?" She replied, "everybody knows Doyle Dykes."
