Within the last week or so, the Gibson Brands Forums suddenly disappeared.
I know that like me, there are members here who are also members there, and I wondered if any know if the disapperance is permanent or temporary?
Please and thanks,

The URL would help a strictly technical diagnosis.

My first hit sent me to forums.gibson.com which gave me "DNS address could not be found. " That error can be intermittent, specific to a user's location or an indication that an IT department has misconfigured something associated with a domain.

It could also be deliberate.

My search also turned up a cached hit from a news site that observed the brand forum was down but the news site has since deleted the article. But that could be a courtesy to Gibson who might be embarrassed by an IT error or unwilling to publicly discuss why they pulled the plug.

fronobulax,
My search turned up that same notice on the news site, but I've been unable to find any other information, and the only other site member whose personal email address I have couldn't supply any either.
Curiouser and curiouser.

I'm cynical. My guess is someone at Gibson decided it cost too much - either IT costs or cost to "brand prestige" and decided to pull the plug. If that is true then we won't know anything for about a month at which point some oft repeated speculation will be treated as fact, perhaps reinforced by someone claiming to work at Gibson and speaking off the record.

Yeah, I noticed that. I stop in there once in a while (unlike in the past when I was more of a regular). A year or so ago they changed the site's format - a severely bad choice IMO. I expect this outage is just a temporary thing. Hopefully they're changing their whole interface - I hate their current layout.

I doubt that it is necessary to elevate this to the level of a Conspiracy Theory. We're not talking faked Moon landings or Alien abductions.
It's just a guitar brand website.

Clearly you have avoided the hysteria and conspiracy associated with past disappearances of websites for guitars and other consumer brands. Seems to me FMIC had some issues in this area a decade or so.

I was not intending to lower the discussion to the realm of a conspiracy theory. I was just applying factual lessons learned elsewhere to this situation.

If you were trying to be funny then I hope you have realized by now that I, at least, have a track record of not thinking your posts were supposed to be funny and consequently responding inappropriately.

Little known fact, the moon landings were staged, except the producer/director (a young Spielberg) demanded that it be shot on location...

I’ve spent a lot of time around Gibsons in the last fifty years, and started participating frequently on the Gibson-run forum back in the mid 2000s. Moderation there has always been rather lax, and imho it often led to (if I were looking after the best interests of the brand) what would amount to a somewhat nagging corporate eyesore.

Some very fine folks from Gibson’s acoustic & electric divisions used to participate, but that ended quite a few years ago. The quality of discussions reached a point where I no longer saw the site as a positive experience, and decided to end my participation about a month ago. The potential loss of reference info is unfortunate, but perhaps Gibson came to a similar conclusion.

Speilberg?! Let's get our facts straight -- it was Stanley Kubrick! Nobody could fake a moon landing like that guy.
Nay, you're all wrong! Georges Meliès filmed a moon landing in 1902! Gibson brands forums have been taken over by a group of BC Rich fanatics, heavily armed with supercharged Extreme Warbeasts (with Floyd Rose!)
