My X-500T arrived: How do I secure the bridge, or do I?

As long as the bridge doesn't move, that would apply. However, if the bridge slides around some, obviously, you can end up with a scratched areas with a footprint larger than that of the bridge foot.

That makes perfect sense, but then the whole point of the exercise is to not have the bridge move around... :)

So assuming there is such a thing as an ideal fixed position for these bridges (where intonation is correct), why aren't they fixed in the first place?

Hi Geir,

Cool that your guitar sounds sweet! Congrats! What strings do you use and with what amp? Can't wait for the pics!

The strings on it I have no idea. Might be the originals, since this had a definitive flair of NOS, even with the hangtag still on it and no wear on the original case. It even came in the original cardboard box! A tiny bit of scratches on the pickguard suggests that it might have been hanging on display in a shop at one time.

I normally use Elixir strings, simply because I have a lot of guitars that gets little playtime (I usually have one or two favorites that i play all the time) and so want to keep the string budget on a modest level. Any reason why Elixirs would not work well on this guitar?

As for the amp, I have a thread about that in the amp section. Briefly, today I have a Mesa Nomad 45, but I am looking at buying a modded Princeton Reverb Reissue with a 12" Celestion. I originally bought the Mesa because I fell in love with the undriven clean sound, and the X500T sounds magnificent on it. But I want something with a bit of soul which breaks at more friendly volumes.

A princeton would sound great with that guitar! Have you looked at victoria? I simply love my amp with the guild.

Yes, I have looked at the Victorias for many years. But the cheaper/smaller ones didn't use to have reverb, and I just love a bit of reverb. :)

The ones that did was a bit over my budget and too loud. Not sure if that is the case today, though.

They are not cheap but worth the money. They have some nice amps with reverb tremolo that they rate somewhere between ten deluxe reverb and the super reverb.. I think 2x12 3x10 and 1x15. For every flavour. The reverb thing was my issue too, until the golden melody. But it has serious power. And they look killer, not that that is important offcourse
