Where did the weekend go to?! I figured I would have posted this way before now, but .... you know how it goes.
Anyway, I was waiting to see if I could get some pictures of it to go with the post, but discovered at the 11th hour that the batteries in this camera were done. Will post photos later on.
It's a sweetie! Very pretty, though not blingy. Very nice woods: some of the nicest IRW I've seen. The Madagascar Rosewood on the bridge and fretboard has beautiful figuring. The guitar has beautiful lines and both looks and feels smaller than it is. I measured the lower bout which is indeed just under 16 inches wide(15 13/16) and 4 3/8 deep. 9 1/4 " waist. Perfect size for me; extremely comfortable to hold.
Big, rich tone. Overall more deep than bright-sounding, but the treble strings ring out strongly and can keep up with the very strong bass and mids, but are very round and not so shimmery or sparkley. Nothing brittle-sounding or tinny about this guitar. The tone seems moderately complex and with pretty good sustain. Already sounds pretty open to me. I'd be curious to hear from others who have owned CV or CO-1s for a while, how the tone changes over time.
My only real concern was the neck. This is my first Guild and am more used to "modern", low profile neck contours with the 1 3/4" nuts. This guitar's neck profile is definitely more on the thick side. HOWEVER, I'm finding it very playable. It came with high action and I sanded the saddle down to where it is medium-low. There is very little saddle left above the bridge now, so I'm a bit concerned about the neck angle. As soon as I can locate a Local Guild/Fender-certified tech, I'll get it looked at. That aside, I am very satisfied with the fit and finish.
I think this guitar is very nice and is a lot of guitar for the $ and I am pleased. Thanks to all the forumites who have posted info and answered questions about the Contemporaries, which ultimately allowed me to take the plunge.
