Thanks, guys...i LOVE it...and my Gibson 6 string... For a guy who just started learning to play guitar last May at the age of 39, I now feel lucky to be able to play a a few of my favourite tunes and to own such nice guitars... My GAS has certainly settled down since I got Sundance. Now all I think about is getting a birth-year guitar (at an affordable price)...and maybe a Guild 6er...if they don't end up being one and the same...

Here is the compensated saddle pic that got dropped off the last post...

Welcome! Kick your shoes off, relax your mind.

My or my what fine guitars...and it's so nice to see a Guild find a loving and appreciative home. I use D'Addario EXP PB lights on my 12 (it's a bit humid down here and the EXPs take the humidity pretty well). Let's see, you said you just started playing last May...hmmmmm if it was May '08 that would put you less than a year into playing...sure does make a difference when you start when you're not using your allowance to buy guitars.

We had a thread a while back on the placement of strap buttons Strap button placement, is there one on your 12 and if so where?

Thanks, jgm...

There is a strap button on the bottom of the guitar, not one on the neck. It is also the jack input as the original owner put a K&K passive pickup in. My luthier said it was a well done installation and wouldn't affect the tone when not plugged in...

I had the K&K pure western minis installed by my luthier in my 2006 F-512. I will concur that there's no change in tone. These don't go under the saddle anyway, they're beneath the bridge plate. The jack receiver is kind of a chunky piece of metal, but that too seems to have no effect; it goes through the tail block, which probably doesn't resonate much (or at all) to begin with. This is a nice system, by the way!

Also, the 2005 and 2006 models didn't have a mounted neck strap button. In 2007 and later, they started putting the button on the top side (above the neck when you wear it), as they had already been doing with GADs and the contemporaries.

Congrats on your new axe!

I'd consider having your techie set it up with Light Gauge Phosphor Bronze strings and tuned down to Eb. It makes the strings easier to push down, sounds great, and creates less tension on the guitar. That's how McGuinn did it too!

Thanks, guys...it now does have light PB's on it. I'm not tuning down yet and capo-ing, but I might soon...I've just learnt (a basic verison of) Hey Joe which Hendrix played in Eb so I might retune the 512 for that and just leave it...
