My DV52 …
Hi everyone out there!
Some months ago I got great advice from you guys which led to buying myfirstguild . (http://www.letstalkguild.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=8114)
Now this is the report:
I LOVE IT!
First of all I tried Elixir strings and didn't like them very much; what a significant improvement those Jon Pearse strings made! Phosphor Bronze lights were fine but the b-string seemed a little bit "noisy" strumming hard. Changing to 80/20 Bronze lights made the guitar sound even better to me. Wow!!!
Concerning uneven top my luthier said it's fine and helps stabilizing the top (as with a violin). He did a neck setup, reglued a lose brace and the enpin-block (you had to look very carefully eve to find this crack), and did some polish on the spot where the arm-elbow lies on the top: the finish was kind of rough there (from sweat I think).
I think about letting him change the bridge to a new bone bridge because there's a little bit of buzz on E/A strings (with loud playing only). On the other hand as far as I understand I'd get a higher action and lower playability. :? But there's no hurry.
I'm afraid the pickup is neither a fishman nor L.R. Baggs but some kind of cheaper design - it works well and sound is ok.
Here you can find some pics of myfirstguild  :
I also have one of Don's gorgeous leather straps. Simply beautiful!
Reporting more details ain't easy because I don't have much experience with instruments of this class.
Finally there are four things contributing to better sound for me:
- it's so beautiful
- it plays fine
- it sounds superb (espacially with JP 80/20 - thanks Grammy!)
- it's fun to play, so I play more often …
