Music is absolutely based on math. The curve of a grand piano is even the shape of a logarithm graph.

Music theory does two things. 1) It helps predict what will sound good with what and 2) It gives you a language to use instead of making up silly sounds and gestures to explain what you just did and what you want them to do next time you do that thing you just did.
