I played this 1993 Guild FJ30 at Gruhn in Nashville yesterday. This was reportedly designed by George Gruhn himself!!! Yes, it was awesome!!! I didn't buy it but I came close.

Guilded.......I think that would be a JF30. Yes they are very nice guitars.

Oops! Yall knew what I meant.

The only other Guilds were a few cheapie models, but nothing else like the JF30.

How was the inventory arranged at Gruhn's? I mean by brand, or body style,
or tone wood, or not at all!

I've not been to Gruhn's, but I have heard that he has a room in which he keeps his really high end stuff.....a place that you ask permission to enter. I don't know that for a fact, but have heard it a time or two.

:) Ah, my JF30-12. That's really the one that got my Guild collection started. A very special guitar to me. You see, Mrs. West and I have only been together for 12 years.....virtual newlyweds. When she and I first started seeing each other, she loved my D25 and was constantly asking me to play for her (after 12 years, she's constantly asking me to stop now). Anyway, she would inquire about Guild guitars and I mentioned to her that my only regret was not having ever bought a Guild 12......a Westerly.

Not too long after that, Mrs. West surprised me with my JF30-12. A 10 year old guitar at the time and she looked brand new....still does. I don't mind admitting that I got a little misty eyed. That's the one that started the whole Guild acquisition thing with me. With new strings, she sounds like a band of angels.

Frosty, the invetory was generally arranged by brand. They have a definite (and huge) Martin section, a Gibson section and a Taylor/Collings section. The miscellaneous stuff was all mixed together in one area. Yes, the JF30 was among other lesser guitars IMO.

West, I've also heard that they have a private room of "good" stuff. There is an elevator to the upper floors that says it's for employees only. I have never asked about the secret room. I did however see several $20,000+ guitars hanging in the showroom, so I can't imagine what they keep in the private room. It might be like that scene at the end of the movie National Treasure where they find the vaults full of gold as far as you can see!! Next time I go there I'll ask about it for sure!! :D

If you go to the http://www.gruhn.com/ website, you can search the inventory by maker. His listings are pretty good as far as pics go.

I was there once. I asked about the room upstairs, Billy told me you had to have the ability to play plus the means to pay to go up there for insurance reasons. He assured me that whenever Neil or Eric or Bob or Paul or Steve were in town, they always dropped by and went up there and sometimes there were some great impromptu jams.

I didn't even want to try to guess at the last names, it was somewhat irrelevant.

I had a high school friend who did go up there once as a special guest, he told me he had never seen so many instruments with six figure price tags scattered about in a room before!
