Many of us talk about culling our guitar herd to a reasonable number of guitars but have difficulty following through with it. That's me. My friend stopped by to look at a Taylor guitar I was thinking about selling, and I jokingly asked him if he would consider making me an offer for everything guitar-related in my closet. Thirty minutes later, all the guitars were packed up and gone. Not exactly how I planned the day to go, but go it went. Everything! This will be the first time in about 50 years I won't have a Guild guitar (or any guitar) in my possession. I don't intend to pursue any more Guild guitars, as 50 years is a good run with any guitar brand.

It's not all gloom and doom, though. My friend has had my Froggy Bottom Model M for the last five months and is still on the fence on whether he wants to commit to purchasing it. I think he would have bought it by now, so one may end up coming back home. If so, I'll have at least one guitar.

In any case, I just wanted to thank all of you for all the great friendship this forum has provided me over the years!

Tommy

Ha! My herd just keeps getting bigger. Even if I went down to one guitar, I'd still stay on this board for all the great friends I've made here. This place really is different from other guitar forums, because a lot of us know each other, and many lifelong friendships have been made here. And we don't care if you have zero Guilds and one Froggy Bottom!

Why did you want to stop playing guitar, Tom?

Tommy, I have the same question! I have had one acoustic and one electric for decades, it's both self-control, and financially driven. But I'd be lost without at least one to play.

Heck, I've only ever had one Guild. I bought it in pieces , I repaired it, stripped it to the raw wood and refinished it to my liking. I'm not in the market for any more Guilds, it just so happens my old T100d is my fav guitar out any I have ever owned. My les paul, strat, tele, or any other guitar I have has never even slightly enticed me to join any other guitar brand specific forum. None except MY Guild. And I'm REALLY glad I did. I've truly enjoyed my brief time here. That guitar will be with me as long as I'm on the right side of dirt! The way I see it. If you CAN play, you need 1 guitar. (Any guitar!) It's a good positive thing for the soul.

And if you can no longer play for some unfortunate reason, I'm so sorry... and can understand cleaning house.

I bought a $40 guitar on my honeymoon. The thought of being without a guitar was too much.

We all have our days.

The only time I could consider selling all my good guitars would be if I'd find one so good I'd think this is it, and she's got everything I have been fond of in all of the guitars I've seen, heard or owned...Otherwise I'm not able to sell any of the good guitars I own - unless I had no other (about) fair way to act... 😊 I'd go busking again if necessary rather than sell any... So maybe your Froggy Bottom is that one, and you haven't realised it yet then... There will be nice Guilds on the way still, and maybe you had played yours enough to know what they were really worth, and wanted an even better one (I could go for some DV-7X at that point)...I hope you didn't get fooled however...But it's a bit like we don't really need more than one excellent guitar at a time (for a while that is, in my opinion)...Hope you got good money, and that you'll stick around...

Well, as has been said, Tommy, you don't have to leave because your guitars left. Unless that's too painful for you to remember your loss. Not sure if you still can play or not. Having been here over 11 years I've made friends that I cherish and enjoy and I occasionally have a miniscule bit of wisdom or good sense (rare) to impart, but that would keep me around. So you don't have to leave because of your gear leaving. I've enjoyed your posts. (y)

Plus one re: Tom's remarks, Tommy. Though I am not as consistent on this forum as I would like to be due to schedules, family, travel etc., this site is a great place to spend some time. I learn things. I try to contribute from time to time in some meaningful way. Just an all around good group of folks here. However, I do get the feeling of cleaning house that may accompany your decision to sell it all. There is a feeling of starting over maybe. Either way, I hope you stick around.

I have a rule of 5 when it comes to acoustic guitars. Any more than that time to sell a couple. I am sitting at a solid 4 and each has its own function in the lineup. One day when the kids are not suckling from the teet ( as much ) I will possibly do some inventory upgrades. Maybe get a few more high end models.

Tommy, you had the recent thread about a grab & go type of kit, and then a thread related to the possibility of moving for health reasons - and now a decision that probably seems rather extreme to many here. It makes me wonder if you’ve come to a somewhat challenging stretch in time. Perhaps it means nothing, but hopefully all is well, and all the best to you in whatever paths you choose to explore.

As for being guitarless, I’ve sometimes wondered what it might be like if they were unceremoniously gone tomorrow - after spending a good chunk of a lifetime acquiring this group of instruments I find so satisfying. And then conversely, I think about all the good guitars that remain out there, just waiting for the person who might need them if & when the right time comes.

Selling them all seems a bit extreme to me, but you are the best judge of what you need and want in this world. Good luck, but I wouldn't be surprised if you buy a couple soon.

I could sell almost all but if I got down to one, it'd be my D65S..... and if I couldn't play that any more, then I'd find the best home ever for it. But sell all at a whack? Nawww.... nope. (y)(y)
