I would have just flunked anyone who didn’t get it.I used to teach a Python programming class and I filled the slide deck with Monty Python references because Python is named for them. I ended up pulling them all because of the hundreds of people I taught maybe six people got the references.
A largely unknown, especially outside the UK, but massively influential comedy was The Goon show (a radio series), written mainly by Spike Milligan. This was the biggest influence on Monty Python.Too bad for Mr Amory's judgment, but MP is probably one of the two most influential comedies of the post WWII era.
The other of course, is Fawlty Towers.
