As in Butt Ugly... F212, described as mint condition arrived last Tuesday. USeller has filed a UPS insurance claim stating the four cracks were not there when initially shipped. Win some & lose some...

:D Sort of looks like she's missing a tooth with the one black pin Ken. I'll bet she sounds like a million though.

Quite a flattop collection you're amassing there Kenny. Getting ready to open that Hill Country Guild guitar shop Kenny? "Scratch's Axes"!

Less than two years to retirement; social security, and the grand opening, Lord willing... Hope 12ers make a big comeback by then!!! :D 8)

I've got enough points to retire now Ken, but at 50, I'd have to find something else to day. How much did you say that Scratch's Axes would pay a fat, balding sales guy with a big nose?

Ugh... :( Does it play? Got decent action and tone? Would go a long way in salving the wound ... Mine had (disclosed) issues when I bought it; I have nearly 125% of purchase price in it in new tuners / nut / bridge re-fit. It's not a Grot-grade keeper but it is a 40+ year old, good-looking, good-playing and sounding example of a Guild mahogany 12er. John

Well I was including the nose. Mrs. West and I have often discussed how it's probably a blessing that we have no children together. She too as you well know, is rather nasilly endowed. We're afraid the write up in the paper would have read, "Mr. and Mrs. West R Lee" have given birth to a 12 pound nose.

The UPS insurance claims adjuster showed up last Thursday. He took several pictures of the guitar, the shipping box and the materials used in packing. He states the claim will be settled with the shipper by the end of this week. I understand I'm then responsible to determine options by contacting the seller. As previously mentioned, he insured it for three times what I paid for it. Saga continues... I may wind up taking it to Ross the magic luthier to appraise how much work and how many $$$ to make it playable... I doubt seriously that I'll take 'Bugly' to Arlington, but who knows?

Butt ugly? Wow, I don't think so.

A lot of humidification for a few days should close up the cracks, scratch. Looks like all the damage is dehydration-related (to my eye). Sorry to see it, but it doesn't look bad. Yeah, should've been disclosed for sure.

Hi Scratch: other than being hard on the eye, how does it play and sound? cj

CJ: I was asked not to play it or move it until the claim is settled. It still sits in its case at the office. Really not playabe anyhow as the strings are around 1/2 inch high at the 12th fret. Neck is badly bowed to say the least and probably needs reset. Described as 'Mint' condition; I'd hate to see one of his described as 'Excellent'...

I dropped Bugly off with Ross the magic luthier this evening after work. He confirmed my worst fears. The neck has undergone an amateurish neck reset, and the bridge was also poorly replaced somewhere along the line. Frets are gone, of course, cracks can be repaired, but he says full repair will be more than it could ever be worth. Anyway, he'll give me a quote to bring it back to campfire special status. Sometimes you gets the bear and sometimes the bear gets Scratch...

Good news is Gipper arrived yesterday. What a great find. I'll post a separate thread with pics...

Takes a bit of the sting out, Jerry. Still chaps my hide, though that someone would list a guitar like that as 'Mint'... Just a scammer, and in this case, I was the scammee... :?

I hate to see the problem your having with the F212. Can't you demand return of the guitar for it not being as described? IMHO half inch action with a poor reset = non mint condition, not to mention the cracks. If this was an ebay deal hopefully you can leave the seller negative feedback in the least. Good luck with it, hopefully you can get something worked out.

Peter,
Unfortunately this wasn't ebay. This guy showed up on LTG with a sob story, pictures of another guitar, and and I bit. He's not the easiest to reach these days. The actual condition would be better described as a project guitar...
