I did try out a new Oxnard made D-40 at GC Hollywood. It was fantastic but at about $2,700 out reach for me.
I have never seen a new US made Guild at GC Pasadena which is my local GC store, only imported new acoustics and some used Guilds.

That's interesting, and perhaps it has something to do with proximity to Oxnard? The only relatively large chain that I've seen brand new US made Guild in is Sam Ash.

Hey Norrissey, you momentarily transported me back to my youth! Born & raised in Pasadena, I left there in 1971 after graduating from Pasadena City College - never to return. Gotta say, as a kid it always seemed like a great place to be.

And CMGs headquarters are in Santa Monica, even closer.

Hey, Ralf, have you been? I'm wondering if there's anything to see at HQ. Would love to talk to those guys someday. I'm sure if we ever have an LTG event at the shop in Oxnard, the folks from HQ would come to see us. :). Let's hope it happens someday?

Hi @bobouz, yeah Pasadena is still a great place to be! I've lived here since '91 and love it. Pasadena City College is still going strong!

I’ve been to the Hollywood Guitar Center on Sunset Blvd. but not to Cordoba's headquarters, as the Guild purchase happened after my job with the US company finished and I have not been to CA since.

The only LTG member who might have been there is @Dylan McGee Jones .

But there might be something to see, especially when looking a bit in the history!

As you know, the two key persons for Guild and CMG are Tim Miklaucic (CEO and founder of Cōrdoba Music Group) and Jonathan Thomas (President Cōrdoba Music Group).

Let's start with Tim Miklaucic. He also is the owner and CEO of "Guitar Salon International".

According to their webpage, "Tim began importing guitars from Spain in 1977 while a student at UCSD. He studied classical guitar with Celin Romero and the Romero family, who also introduced him to their collection of world-class instruments.

In 1983, while working on a PhD in Philsophy at UCLA, Tim’s love of the guitar led him to found GSI. In the following years he also founded Cordoba Guitars, Cordoba Music Group and the GSI Foundation to support music education in public schools.

For over 35 years, Guitar Salon International (GSI) has been the world’s largest dealer of fine classical and flamenco guitars. By building close relationships with both the makers and players of these instruments, and always maintaining a profound respect for the art, GSI has been able to serve students, professionals, collectors and aficionados alike. We have evaluated, acquired and sold the largest number of vintage instruments from the most desirable makers of history, and have subsequently assembled some of the most important private collections in the world.
"

See for instance here:

Shortly after founding GSI, Tim Miklaucic also founded another company aound 1985, Tornavoz Music Company, which by around 2011 (?) was renamed "Cōrdoba Music Group". And we all know that CMG bought Guild in 2014.

And Jonathan Thomas (now President Cōrdoba Music Group), started after university in year 2005 with Tornavoz Music Company! That's how they got to know each other I guess.

Tornavoz Music Company called themselves “The world's leading supplier of nylon-string guitars and accessories.
They had the “Cordoba Guitars” brand in their portfolio.

Tornavoz Music Company and Guitar Salon International (GSI) both were/are located at 1455 19th Street, Santa Monica CA 90404.

Here is an about 10 years old picture of the building:

1639918331339.png

Sometime between 2011 and 2013, after CMG was founded, the signs changed to "Cordoba":

1639918463348.png

And after the Guild purchase in 2014 the round sign now shows: Cordoba and Guild, here is a recent picture:

1639918556967.png

1639918401908.png

So why did I write all of this? Because inside is the showroom of Guitar Salon International (GSI) ! And I don't know if there is also the "Guild Guitars" showroom, or if that one is in Oxnard, only @Dylan McGee Jones could tell us.

Here is a picture from October 2020 of the GSI showroom:

1639918719883.png

And GSI shows that you can visit the showroom any time on appointment:
"If you’re in the Los Angeles area and would like to come in to view and try out any of the guitars we have in stock, you’re more than welcome – we’d love to meet you. If you do so, we ask that you simply let us know beforehand – the best way is by contacting us by phone or email."

And you see that they still produce videos from the location, like this one from 16.December 2021. Actually open it in YouTube, GSI has a ton of videos there!

"Pasadena City College is still going strong"
My grand parents went there. My grandfather went there when Jackie Robinson was also a student.
Yes, back then it was Pasadena Junior College, and Robinson went on to UCLA after his two years there. When I attended in ‘69-‘71, a number of photos of Jackie were in the main hallway. An amazing individual and heroic American, I highly recommend the book “Jackie Robinson, A Biography,” by Arnold Rampersad - which includes a close look at his life growing up in Pasadena.

When did GC start locking up $429.99 guitars. The local GC in TX only used to lock the $1000+ guitars. Reminds me of the spray paint aisle at Walmart. It is just the smash and dash CA stores?

I think it likely has to do with the Hollywood GC being their "flagship" store and is still looked at by many as THE Guitar Center whereas every other GC in the country is just a watered down version that bases their inventory on their own individual past sales records, whereas, the flagship store is still a veritable showroom for the entire franchise all under one roof. The same applies to several franchises, where the original (flagship) store still outshines them all. I've never been, but I would certainly expect the Hollywood GC to have a bunch of Custom Shop Gibsons and Fenders on their walls, while my local GC is plastered w/ MIM Fenders,Squiers and Epi's surrounding just a handful of American Fenders and Gibsons...which has always been the case here.😠

GSI is dedicated to high-end nylon string guitars (Classical and Flamenco), luthier's made only I think. I don't believe you'd find any Guild guitars in their showroom... There must be an office nearby, where Cordoba Music Group sits... By the way, it seems everything started with GSI (it's been going on for 35 years). This being said, maybe things have changed, and since Cordoba MG now owns GUILD - which is a big name - so that new plans should be on the way... Maybe do they sell Guilds already, but I see it more like something that could happen if they'd find other offices to rent/buy nearby for instance... So be patient unless you're into paying $ 5/6K for a valuable nylon string !

Read post #27 again, this is now CMG's/Guild's headquarters. There is no other CMG/Guild "office" except the factory in Oxnard.
But you are right, the GSI showroom in the same building is still an "Nylon only" showroom and I'm not sure if the separate Guild showroom is in the building as well or a room in the factory in Oxnard.
