Here we go again....
Lemme guess.
The Martians will love the Martin more, while the Guildsters will like the Guild better.
And both groups will describe the sounds of their guitars in nebulous terms that essentially mean nothing.
But because this is a Guildophilic site, with more Guildsters than Martians, the Guild will prevail and most will breathe a sigh of relief that their choices were justified.

I recently stumbled on a 25 year old Guild D-55 in mint condition, hardly played.
It blows the doors off of the Martin HD-28E that I had.
Sold it!!
An even comparison (IMO) would be a Guild D-55 vs a Martin D-41.
Now that is a tough choice!!

Please explain how the answers to Officer Dreedle's question will differ from what I have described, and point out, what if anything I have said is untrue.
Variations on this "taste test" are suggested with boring regularity on all branded musical instrument sites, and the answers are always the same. As will be the answers here.

Honestly, ingroup/outgroup bias, or in this case, inbrand/outbrand bias is kinda of universal. We like Guilds. We play Guilds, and our guitar heros play Guilds. We like other guitars (ask twocorgis about his David Crosby!) but, yeah, we like Guilds.

I don't own a D-28, so I can't give you any guidance other than going to a decent music store and playing a bunch of different guitars. I have a bunch of electric, so I might be able to help with that. There are people here who have and love Martins, but may have not seen this thread yet. It's Sunday morning, so they could be at church, or at the dog park or sleeping, because they don't have a cat that wakes them up at six on the dot.

To be clear, I wasn’t so much asking for value judgments, just sound differences, but carry on!
Hey, I wish I had a D-28, but I've played a few Martins and liked them a lot. I can't really describe the differences because I just enjoyed the moment, you know. I miss the LMGs a lot, because we got to meet people and play a lot of cool guitars that normally we wouldn't.

Football is also in full swing, so people won't respond on the left side of the pond* until the games are over.

I have never read a verbal description of guitar voices that even remotely described them adequately so that I knew what the descriptor meant.
For me, the only way to understand the differences is to play them myself.

I'm a hard core atheist who's dog died and hates cats. I was up at 4:30 this morning stringing my Martin OMs with overpriced Santa Cruz parabolics. What's your point?

I won a NH D-50, which is cocobolo, a species of rosewood. Mine was a GSR, so it's off the rack special, but it is a ridiculously good guitar. It's just a shame that it's difficult finding a store with a decent selection of high end guitars that you can play side by side. Who knows, you might end up with a Collings instead!

The point is, not everybody logs on the LTG every minute of every day. Instead of waiting for the people who *do* own both to log in and help the op out with his questions, there is this negativity.
If you have nothing helpful to say, don't mess up somebody else's post with off-topic stuff. Just walk away, and wait for Rich or Sandy or somebody else with something useful to add, please.

How about NO ONE post unless they have played each of the instruments mentioned and have some concrete constructive comments based on personal experience?

Yes I personally am lacking in patience but I think the thread is staring to lack in utility and civility.
