matsickma said:I must admit I have acquired Sellers Remorse in regards to a nice white S281 I sold a few years back. Over the years I realized how rare the particular feature on my guitar were. It had EMG's but also a gain boost switch and a unusual midrage equalization control. A few months back I was looking at the EMG website are came across the feature I just mentioned. I then realized this was a realtivly "custom" issue.
Blues Dan, I am curious on your report. It sure seems to be that maple necks only come on the "instep" shaped headstock necks. Has a anyone see one other than this headstock type?

I suspect the EMG gain boost was similar to this item. ( I never looked inside to see if it had the trim pot). It was pretty dominant and I suspect it could be as high as 20 dB as stated in the EMG spec sheet.

You don't see many S281's with three knobs. The middle one was the special one. It enhance the mid range and cut the bass. It achieved a very interesting tone. I had not come across this sound before and it was pretty cool. EMG provides a description as provided below.
