It’s a late 70’s EG-200. Kinda cool and rare, but the electronics on the Japanese Madeira’s were pretty mediocre and are often swapped out, and they have bolt-on necks with a fairly thin body connection which make them susceptible to changing weather conditions. I have a EG-100 (LP Special copy) which I upgraded and I like it a lot, but I also heard the EG-200 is heavy because basically it’s a large block of mahogany. They pop up from time to time from $400-$550 or so, the one you listed was stripped and not functional for $250. Here is an example of a original one with case.

Wow, fantastic, thx. Pamphlets on these are as rare as hen's teeth.

The double cut looks like it could be a very desirable guitar, either one really. Glad I didn't buy the Tele version, I have enough Teles without needing lookalikes.

I guess you mean the EG-150? The EG-100 was a S-100 copy.

I believe the below is from a 1975 catalog but I'm not sure about the year:

Correct, I have a cherry red EG 150, my mistake! Id like to buy a EG-100 if anybody is selling??? 😎. I actually picked up a all original EG-200 a few months back with original chipboard case, I’m setting it up this week. It’s not heavy, and it’s short scale (the image you posted from the ad above is the the correct ratio to the EG-150), definitely not a S-300! I’d say it’s a student model series because of its size and weight. More to come…

Which is an interesting model! I'm discussing with GAD since some time about the S-300 "design template" which was the Hoyer 50603 model from Germany (first half of the 70's).

The Madeira EG-200 is yet another "design copy" of such a Hoyer 50603! Both guitars are really tiny in overal length.

Madeira EG-200 vs. @GAD's Hoyer 50603:

I remember reading about this on another thread, I was more or less comparing it to a S-300 and a EG-150 for Guild-enthusiast posterity. Definitely a different guitar. I would also guess that the knobs on your guitar ARE original, as ugly and nonsensical as they are (gold on a Hog guitar with chrome hardware), I have the same knobs, and the original ad from the 70’s confirms this. Also the white switch tip is original 👍. Wait, hold on, do you still own your EG-200? I bought mine from a guy in PA this past summer, and the wear on the fretboard on the 21st fret looks exactly the same… 🤔

Had a friend who bought one of those (double cut) new. Returned it within a week to exchange for something else. Even compared to the other budget guitars we were playing, it was pretty horrendous. Which is kinda sad, because even now I want to like it.

Sorry that I confused you. My mistake, so the knobs seem to be original. The picture of the EG-200 I posted (the one left of GADs Hoyer) is or was never my guitar, it was simply a picture that I had saved from a Reverb ad earlier. So it sounds you own that one now!

And the one you posted in post #3 actually had black knobs with golden disk! Maybe at some point they changed the gold plastic for black?

Wow I totally posted the above picture last year and totally forgot about it! Well now i DO own the one from the Reverb ad you posted with the fully gold knobs, and the black/gold ones above look to be exactly the same except for the black plastic body. And yes i misunderstood what you wrote, that's my fault. My guess is that there were many variations of parts going on since the Japanese manufacturer Matsumoku was making guitars for many brands, so whatever landed on that guitar at the time is what it came with 🤷‍♂️. My case is faux alligator with yellow plush lining unlike the red one in the other image (I think that is a Guild S-90 chipboard case - square sticker on the side and red interior). And ill probably switch the knobs to black/chrome for consistency, and keep the gold ones of course :geek:. Ill post a pic once im done, and ill post a pic pf my EG-150 too, its pretty bitchin'. @Rocky It took some work but it was worth it (y)
