Hello

I'm looking for a pickguard for my 78 artist award. The guitar came to me with the original dearmond pickup removed and a new Gibson l-5 style pickguard and johnny smith pickup installed. I love the sound of the pickup and would like to keep it, but the wiring harness is a constant pain--when I got it it required a 1/8 mini plug, which was a pain to find and was always pulling out. I switched it to the endpin jack which was still in place from the Dearmond, but now I get annoying buzzes.

To make a long story short, I'd like to

Get a period correct repro pickguard
install a mini-pot for volume and a conventional size jack in the new pickguard

So does anyone know where I can find an appropriate pickguard?

Hello PB+J,

A '78 Artist Award should have a laminated 5-ply (b/w/b/w/b) pickguard. I have pickguards for X-500s and X-175s from that period in stock, but it would be fairly easy to make you a similar one for your Artist Award. I could make it without the cut-out for the DeArmond pickup, so you make the cut-out for the Johnny Smith pickup yourself.

Just get in touch with me if you're interested.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust
