I 'spose the Mods can speak for themselves, but I counted just FOUR locked threads in the misc section since the start of 2022, out of more than 200 threads total. Altho' I didn't read all the posts in detail, I imagine they were locked for straying too close to or into the realm of politics., which as pointed out in the post just above, is forbidden territory. And remember, the offending post MIGHT have been deleted... so if you didn't see anything that offended you, doesn't mean it wasn't there, or wasn't deemed to have offended SOMEONE. Tho' it may seem somewhat draconion at times, it keeps this place as one of the most civil boards I have participated on... and I am thankful for that.

I observed that having fun about some politicians on TV, within the 'Other Stuff' chapter, and within the 'Funny Papers' sub-chapter too, got immediately banned in spite of the most hilarious post I've seen on this Forum ; it was humour however, not politics... (!?) Quite agree (in some cases at least) I'd say...

LTG is run the way we -- the management and the vast majority of the members -- feel it should be run. @JohnG. the tone of your post makes it appear that you are not happy with our decisions here on how to participate in our community. That's unforunate.

I will say that if this thread turns into another bandwagoning, negative exercise it, too, will be shut down.

Usually a thread gets locked when it starts to get “war-y”. LTG has always tried to be supportive, not combative; and that’s when the MODs feel they need to nip something in the bud. Political discussions tend to be powder kegs these days, hence the general practice.

There will be peace when you want none

This is a very polite forum, most posters seem to be smart enough to know when something is teetering on the edge of unacceptable, and political discussions are just that.

You ever check out a couple news stories in the morning - l like to get up at 4am when things are still really quiet - and decide it's too much and you can't handle it and you got to LTG instead, and you breathe a big sigh of relief, because it's an escape, pure and simple.

It's an escape from reality, and let's keep it that way.

I love to talk about cars, old cars especially, but what's the point of talking about gas prices?

I don't want to read about gas prices here.

Why?

What's the point?

There isn't one.

Threads like that get locked fast, and for a reason, they are inflammatory.

We're just here for fun, let's keep it that way, and thank GAD and the mods for giving us this great escape through tough times.

Guild on ;]

Agree. I have been a member of another board that is single rock band überfan/hardcore collector specific for going on 19 years. It is VERY civil and self moderated for the most part. Everyone knows the general rules to civility. "At the dinner table, you don't talk politics, religion, or about any of society's "hot button" topics." Period. But...I'd also have to say that the other board I'm on tends to be much more tidy, in that there would never be 200 new threads the miscellaneous section in even 6 months time, as we have 10-15 general topic umbrella threads that aren't pinned, but do get bumped constantly. The front page there has had several of the same threads on it for over a decade, and the sports ones typically drop to pg 2-3 during their off seasons. Some threads have over 100 pages of discussion, a few even have 300-400! Like instead of starting a new post every time someone of note passes away, we just have an RIP thread, and everyone just adds to it. We have a Foodie thread and everyone adds culinary topics to it. Same w/ football, baseball, hockey, Olympics, soccer/World Cup/Champions League, Cars, motorcycles, traveling, photography, crazy news stories, etc etc. the Mods there strongly encourage using the board's search function before ever starting any new thread to reduce the amount of repeated topics. And for general daily musings by longtime members, we even have a "Coffee Thread", which is our version of an office water cooler room just for random chit chat. I'm so used to so many years on that board, that coming here, if I check in once every 3-4 days, the entire front page of the miscellaneous section are all brand new threads it seems. And often threads that just quickly fade into the ether. IMO, it would make for a more engaging miscellaneous section if the majority of those 200 threads so far this year were simply posts added to existing threads. I'm used to asking myself if something is actually "threadworthy" before starting a new one. More often than not, they aren't.

Just my 2¢ from a relatively new member, but a longtime internet forum user.

What is funny to some people stirs anger in others, so I would rather delete the thread (usually after some discussion with management) than risk having internet fistfights between members. It's easier for us to dodge the occasional rock than to put out a full-blown dumpster fire, IMHO.

I, and I believe the vast majority of LTG users agree with and support the moderation procedures of LTG.
Best of all these sites on the web.
