Hi Phil- read the forum all the time and respond when appropriate. My first guild was a D-44M back in 1973-520 bucks including case. It was a great guitar; flat-backed and a little fancier than the G-37. The arched back on the 37 makes it a little more open sounding than the 44; IMHO the D-44 a little more resonsant. Mine had the mahogony finish. It was the first really good guitar I ever owned and at the time was going to get a Martin D-18. The D-44m blew the D-18's I played away and it was more affordable. I wish I still had it and everytime one shows up on ebay I am very tempted. F-412's and JF30's are great to and both have that open arched-back tone. Hope this helps.

But you know Darryl, I think there is little, if any difference between the JF65, 6 string and the F50. The only difference I can think of off hand is the rosette. Maybe some body size difference, or bracing or something, but they seem like the same guitar to me.

Yes, I think if you blindfolded me and had me play a hundred Guild jumbo maples, I couldn't detect any pattern in the models or when they were built.

The best I've heard (and I'm no George Gruhn) is my blonde F50, which is a '64 (but with a pre-64 liptop). It had been played like Rick Danko's in the old testament when I got it, and it's the one I play the most now, so maybe it's unusually good. On the other hand, I believe hearing varies as much as vision, which is the only way I can explain the popularity of the J 200.

I was thinking the same, Graham. My uneducated guess was the GF series, but I dunno if any GF models were built with maple back/sides.

I bought a Guild F47 a few months ago . I play ragtime, country blues, * old timey music. This music calls for a bright loud sound which I get perfectly with the F47. I really liked the sound RGD got from his maple guitar and I come really close to that sound.

If it's condition is as good as it looks to be, that D-30 would be an absolute steal @ $500! Any LTGers in Oklahoma in need of an great maple dread?

Sad to say, its my late great Guild DV-52 that is in my signature. It just got sold the week before last and it was a real top quality guitar. It was Cali's before me and i enjoyed a great year of playing with her. My ear and playing style lean more to hog guitars right now so I needed to move one out. What a great model. Heres a shot or two of her...maybe ill post up all my shots in the DV-52 fan club. I dont want to run out all the maple lovers with choice piece of rosewood.
