Not terribly significant, but snow in Las Vegas is always kinda fun to me. Started yesterday in the high areas and when the weather lifted for a minute or two in the afternoon the mountains were COVERED with snow. Last night dusted everywhere else and they say more is on the way today possibly. It's just fun to me because it only happens like every 5-7 years.

All my snowboarding and skiing friends are heading up to Mt. Charleston today!! They're gonna need chains.....

Do people there lose their minds when it snows?
They TOTALLY do!!! You don't wanna be on the road with them. Last time I drove home from work in the snow, everyone was apparently going AS FAST AS POSSIBLE to get home quicker. The streets were lined with accidents and crashes!!! WTF???

It’s as bad in West Texas. It’s to the point where I avoid the highway unless I have no choice because that’s where all the idiots reside going way too fast or they think having 4 wheel drive magically keeps you from sliding when barreling down the highway until they start doing 75 sideways.

We're having a snow drought here in New Hampshire. About 4" of snow on the ground, when we normally have about 18" on the ground by now.

Well, snow does not make itself an issue here, although a few years ago we had just enough to cover the ground. I think it had been about 40 years since the last time there was enough to cover anything. Flakes now and then but if anyone sees two flakes then "it's snowing!" But - plenty of rain and a lot of the folks on the road seem to think that means drive faster to get where you're going so you can get out of it sooner. I used to work about a block away from one of the major roads in town. Anytime it rained I would pause and listen. Generally it was less than 5 minutes before I would hear a siren headed to a traffic accident. Is driving safety not taught anymore? I never had driver's ed, but my dad made sure I knew how to be careful and safe on the road. Always watch all mirrors, know what the cars ahead of you are doing as far as you can see, not just the one in front of you, and to wrap it all up he showed me how to check engine fluid levels and made me change a tire (tires are really really heavy). He never showed me how to drive in snow, because we didn't have any, but I know to be careful. Wish everyone did.

I hope never to do 75 sideways!!

My experience and observation is that driving in snow/sleet/rain/ice etc. is still talked about but what matters is hands on experience. When Driver's Ed is taught in the summer, practice is difficult. Same for teaching in places that have snowless winters.

There is certainly hubris involved as well since many drivers don't know what they don't know and others think their vehicle can do it all for them.

Love to see the beauty of the snow but I also try to stay off the roads at all costs. We’re getting some tonight courtesy of you kind folks out west.

Drivers are no better here in MA where we get lots of snow. I swear to God that these nimrods think they’re in a VR video game, where game over is of no concern.

Good points. The local Sheriff's office once a year offers a 2-day training for teen drivers, teaching them some of the things the deputies themselves have to learn. I wish I was a teenager so I could go. The driving course would be fun as well as educational. The kids who were interviewed after the course said it had improved their driving - they had to go in the vehicle they generally drive - as well as heightened their awareness of driving safety in general. Maybe they can go home and teach their folks so there will be fewer sirens on rainy days.

It's a sledge with three runners, almost like ski. The middle one is steerable. Yes, it's fun  My son was tired that night, he went up and down many times 😅

Today was the first significant snow for us this winter, about 5 inches so far. Very unusual winter, snow wise for Michigan. Fired up my snowblower today for the first time this season.

TOM - ENJOY WHILE YOU HAVE IT

Only once in 5-7 years - sort of envy that - we had some heavy/wet snow here and shoveling gets more and more unpleasant year after year.

But it sure looks pretty - and dogs love it ( they do not have to shovel 🥰 🐾🐾🐾 )

JYMY @ whopping ten weeks of age - enjoying the snow - have a video, too - but can not upload directly.

Jymy getting to know neighbour's stacked dogs - now @ 17 months

And still no problems with snow - he actually loves to roll in it
