Hi folks, I've decide to sell my D50 that used to belong to a Guild employee. Currently it is with Wayne Henderson a well known luthier and musican who lives in the 'Mouth of Wilson, near Rugby ,Virignia. Wayne has verified that it is Brazilian rosewood. I don't have a photo of the label to date it, But I'm sure I could get one from Wayne via one of his mates, as I don't think he even owns a cell phone with a camera.I have over $1500.00 us invested in it. You could buy it and have it shipped to you or wait for Wayne to finish, but I don't think he has started it yet.I have three photo's but once again struggling to load them.
Please PM me for details if you are interested.I can email them to you
Thanks
Stuart

Hey Tom, Yep, good point!.Ah there is a crack near the sound hole , the crack is bridge side on the lowest string, not the neck side. The bridge itself is has some cracking or splitting. I thought for myself I would have the whole top replaced , but that my preference ,Wayne was going to do a new Adirondack red spruce top.He is pretty renown for having done work on pre war martins so he knows his stuff,I know it wouldn't have been original but hey a D50 Brazilian with a red spruce top and shaved braces would have sounded amazing I bet.But to someone else I may have been buggering up the whole thing.

And I've got the same guitar too! The top is fine, but there was a crack on the back, a shifting neck-block, and the bridge needed replacing, all done by Guild in New Hartford.

Fabulous guitar~!

Though Guild confirmed the back was Brazilian rosewood seconds after taking the guitar out of its case, no one there could say for sure if the sides were also BRW.

I've got the same guitar currently being re-topped by Kerry Char out here in Portland!

A mid-60s Brazilian D50 (Greg O'Haver's "Gilda," or maybe "Guilda") is the single best sounding guitar I've ever heard. Good luck with the sale.

hi Stuart,

You want to replace the top and all of the braces? just because the bridge is cracking and one top crack along a spruce grain? I would not do that, the rest of the top looks pretty clean and original! is the top flat? less is more, my friend. it likely just needs typical repairs/refurbishing. Also, ask your repairman for the serial number. we dont need a picture if he is digi-photo-sharing challenged, just ask for the letters/numbers on label and the head, make sure they match and are reported accurately...lets find out what year she is. Also the TRC looks later and possibly non-original. I have an extra Hoboken one for this guitar, it has your name on it. However, I recall Hans posting that the TRC covers are not necessarily interchangeable because of screw hole placement. So we will need to inspect your guitar further in that immediate TRC area to see if A) they can be swapped, B) if what is on there now appears original, and C) if there appears to be an old/extra screw hole anywhere for the TRC. If the TRC on there now is original, the guitar might not have left the factory until 1971-1972. that would be the latest Brazillian back on a Guild I know of...until the 90s anniversary etc models. it does look Brazillian to me, in your photo. but I am no expert. sorry im not in a position to purchase right now. wish i was. keep us posted!
