Doyle Dykes was at the Copper Mountain Guitar Town festival this weekend with a stage full of guitars. All were Guild except one - Doyle said that one was a Kirk Sands classical electric and Doyle said to be looking for it from Guild in the future.

You can here Doyle's statements in the early part of this audio as he tunes it up, then plays it:

Here's the writeup on this guitar at Kirk Sands' site: http://www.sandguitars.com/artists/dykesd/artistpage.htm

Also on stage was an F47 cutaway with Maple back, a 12-string Mahogany cutaway, and his son Caleb played what appeared to be the same small-deep bodied sunburst Doyle was playing at NAMM.

From what I have followed in the past, I would presume that a Doyle Dykes signature would be:

Maple-bodied

Short scale (i.e. 25" or less)

1 3/4" nut width

"Special' electronics

I am sure there are several "swings and tilts" of adjustment to get what Doyle hears in his head as opposed to what said guitar delivers...consider that prior to this he was playing Taylor (w/ Bagg special p/u) through a Rivera Sedona...

I am just about bursting in anticipation...and guess it will be a GSR F47M or some sort.

Bill, did you ever play any of the Taylor DDSM guitars? THey were beautiful, small-bodied instruments. Carl had a few of those in Union over the years.

Those brass bridge saddles and the rose headstock were really cool features, but I can't say I ever felt strongly about the sound (unplugged).

I wonder if Kirk Sand's work on this will even utilize an existing Guild body. I'm kind of guessing no, but we'll see. I'm also wondering how Kirk works with Tim Shaw and Ren Ferguson. Do those other guys have anything to do with this? Dunno.

Anyway, looking forward to seeing what this matures into!

Yes, some time back Carl had a bunch of special run Taylors...I think we were there to see Doyle Dykes and there had been either a Taylor clinic that afternoon or the day before...I tried a white DDSM which I thought was truely magical...and I am not a big fan of maple guitars. The whole feel was great, at least to me. I could do without the rose on the headstock, but to its a very nice guitar.

Several other times I have tried that lesser (black) Doyle Dykes Special or whatever, and while I think they sounded pretty nice and the workmanship impeccible, the skinny neck/wierd string spacing at the bridge makes it almost unplayable for me...maybe its supposed to be a "strummer' and not a fingerstyle guitar?

I am hoping-hoping-hoping the new DD is an F47 based piece as I love the guitar but cannot mate with the skinny neck...

Doyle said at a workshop/demo last Thursday that the new guitar will be an F47MCE, standard scale length, with a Baggs LB6 Pickup and Venue DI, if memory serves me as I didn't write it down.

But that wouldn't be the Kirk Sand model I guess. So there are multiple coming as it sounds.

I thought I'd chime in on this, guys... The guitar that Jane was talking about is the one Doyle is working on with Guild; that is correct. The information I have is that the Kirk Sands guitar for Doyle is not associated with Guild at all. Just wanted to clarify.

I thought the story is different. Doyle got his latest Kirk Sand guitar just around easter 2012, as he reported on his webpage. Yes, that had nothing to do with Guild in the first place, as he had various Kirk sand guitars in the past (as written on Kirk sand's webpage).
But there was talk that Kirk Sand and Doyle work together with Guild to release such a Kirk Sand model under the Guild name, not under the Kirk Sand name.
http://letstalkguild.com/phpBB2/viewtop ... 17&t=31188

And Doyle mentions this in the mp3 audio that was attached to the Original post here. (I think you need to download it and listen to it). At 00:27 he talks about his Kirk Sand guitar and between 00:58 and 01:20 he said that soon we can look forward to Guild building such a model because Kirk Sand is only one guy (hence can't build many guitars) and he want many people to own such a guitar! (hence need somebody like Guild to get it in production). Tell me if I maybe misunderstood what he said?

Ralf, interesting... To my knowledge, Kirk Sand is not working with Guild. I haven't listened to this clip, but perhaps Doyle is just thinking ahead to a possible future. In any case, we can ask for clarification at LMG in a few weeks. If I got it wrong, I apologize.

My disappointment knows no bounds...

The Guitar Gallery in Milford New Hampshire recently advertised a "just received" "Doyle Dykes Guild." Nothing on Guild's web page, so I called them last night...they ordered a F30RCE Standard in sunburst and were told "thats just like the one that Doyle Dykes plays..." I have tried one, do not care for the big clubby neck at all...nothing like his Taylor namesakes...

I was hoping more for something like this, with modifications...
