Kate McGarrigle

Songwriter, musician & singer Kate McGarrigle died on Jan 18, age 63. With her older sister Anna, Kate produced numerous albums and wrote many great songs. The McGarrigle sisters put their families first, limiting their touring and performing and concentrating on writing.

Kate is survived by her children Rufus and Martha Wainwright.

Actually, Anna wrote that beautiful song, but the sisters were so inseparable it's easy to think it was hers.

Thanks Ross, very sad. Like many I was first introduced to the McGarrigles through Heart Like a Wheel. There are some really nice YouTubes around with them.

KM's passing came only a week after the death of Lhasa de Sela, another Montreal songwriter & performer. The Canadian music scene is much poorer.

At my weekly Open Stage last night, many of the participants sang McGarrigle songs.

I just found this out here! Very sad indeed. i was just yesterday listening to the Harry Smith project cds with her on it ..............VERY sory to hear this news tonight.
