Hey All,
I just hit BIN on this well used beauty on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0199662354
I thought the price was great and I love the story and the worn look of it!
I've also been unable to make up my mind whether I should get a II or a III--now I don't have to!

My question you ask? (There's always a question, right?) Are those pickups humbuckers or SCs? I'm familiar with the white (or black) DeArmonds of the period, but these I'm not so familiar with (though I've seen a few, I've never heard them).

All comments etc are appreciated.

Congratulations! Those are humbuckers, with a sound all their own, nothing like a Gibson humbucker, quite a bit brighter.

Congratulations Chris,

Those are humbuckers but they sound really different from the average (Gibson style) humbuckers you will find on most humbucker equipped guitars; they have a sound of their own.

Have fun!

Haha, good morning and Merry Christmas to you too Hans, I could ask you the same question! :D
My girlfriend's in Florida, I think I would have been cuddled up in bed otherwise...!

I'm getting ready to go have turkey with mom and dad, and I guess "checking the forums" has become somewhat of an obsessive compulsive morning ritual, along with coffee and a cigarette, haha.

Nice score chrisb! I'm sure you'll love it! I did a restoration on a '64 Starfire last year & it's a great instrument.

chrisb, congratulations! I looked long and hard at that auction! I'm glad somebody who got it can tell us all about it.

Check back in when you get it. Good luck and Merry Xmas!

Thanks for the replies...

I figured they were humbuckers, and I look forward to hearing them. I've always thought of myself as more of a SC guy --I LOVE the DeArmonds on my re-issue Starfire (which I'll be selling as soon as I get this new baby). I'm sure they're great pups. I'm also sure this'll be close to the top of my list as well. Right after my Ricky 12!

I'll report back when I get it.

Chris
