I was in search of a great acoustic and after owning a Tacoma DR-20 I was hard pressed to find something as good, but couldnt

I came across a Guild dealer and played a D-50 and D-40 and I must say they were right up there with the Tacoma DR

I love trying new things and I thought lets see what vintage gear I can find (never owned an older acoustic but they sound better)

I ran into 2 1977 Westerly D-35 in good condition while everyone was bidding like crazy for the first one to end only 2 people were watching the second one (which was in better condition).....and like a ninja in the last 10 seconds I threw down my bid

needless to say I won for $435 shipping and case included.

no breaks, cracks, all original, some fret wear/ lovin, and plenty of character.... the only thing the bridge might need to be reset or it already was, let me know what you guys think from one of the pics

anyway its my first Guild/ vintage guitar. I hope its heavy and really loud and articulate

Welcome to LTG -
Score! Nice lookin' guitar - great price too.

Bridge does look like it's been reglued. Check intonation up the neck and you can determine if it was done well or might need to be moved. If the intonation is on or pretty close, probably not an issue.

Keep in mind that saddle/nut/neck relief all can be fine tuned to help intonation if it's not spot-on. Once the action is as good as you can get it for the whole neck, then recheck the intonation. If it's still a problem then moving the bridge might need to be done.

At least that's how I go about it - other opinions will be forthcoming I'm sure...! :)

Howdy, krauser2!
Welcome to the Guild family.
Congratulations on your D-35. Looks like she's been a real working man's machine. Hope it's everything you wanted!

Post well. Post often.

yeah those are from someone who played with nails

i've seen it before on other peoples guitars, seeing how your fingers never really touch the board it really doesnt affect playability

Congrats, and welcome to the forum......you're hooked for life now brother. My wife's D30 has a couple of indentations like that right where you make a D chord. I've only seen it on rosewood fretboards, I would think ebony is just too hard a wood. Looks like the D35 has been played a bit, and I'm sure for good reason, she probably sounds fabulous.

Congrats, nice score! Yeah, she's been played, that's a good thing, looks well taken care of too. I bet it sounds sweet, try a new set of strings and I bet she'll sing. My buddy has a '76 D-35 that he bought when new, it's a great guitar :D

Hello Krauser2,

Welcome and congratulations. I also won a D35 a couple months ago and I'm loving it. They are great guitars. You should be careful around here though. I bought my first guild about 4 months ago and I now own 3. ( there's just something about these guilds) Enjoy

One suggestion Krauser - unless a previous owner has changed things, the standard nut and saddle material on the D35 then were plastic as were the pins, Worth replacing nut and saddle with bone (and you may find the pins are bent and twisted with age - mine were - lot of discussion on this site if it is worth replacing plastic pins with bone/tusc/ebony etc). I get a lot of volume, particularly bass, even with 0.10 D'Addarios or 0.11 Elixrs. Enjoy - also replied to email :D

thanks guys

I have a bad feeling if I like this guitar, a Guild D-50 might magically pop up in the next year or so

well see, gets here today anytime now

I'm Thinking getting bone saddle and nut, with ebony pins
