Some would say the following is "poor advice" but..............

I am allergic to statin drugs. That means I cannot take ANY drug that contains statin. I cannot take any over the counter substance (cholestoff) that contains the so-called natural statin (fluvo-statin); regardless how well the Chinese are doing. I refuse to be in a debilitating state on the way to my grave so I quit the Rx. Now, based on my activities and/or diet, 6 months interval testing will vary. I'm up and then I'm down.

After having had a quadruple by-pass (01/11/05) I was subjected to Cardio-lashing where my cardiologist ranted and raged at me about my heart. He scared the hell out of Princess so I fired him. I was also given a duffle bag full of other medication; BP meds, ACE inhibitors, etc. All of it made me feel like sh#t and also had some pretty profound side affects too personal to divulge on the forum. So I stopped taking all of the heart medication.

My systolic blood pressure never was and never has been over 125.....ever.
My diastolic blood pressure never was and never has been over 85 or under 70....ever. Why the insistence on the "continued use" of BP medication? $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

My family doctor told me, "you're a good deal healthier than your need for medications" and, "it's amazing that cardiologists don't accept the fact that their patience may actually know their own bodies better".

I quit taking everything and started drinking Corona instead. Now THAT'S a miracle drug.

Peace

Steff,

Thank you for your post. You may never know how many lives you have affected by a simple few sentences. Just reading everyone's personal experiences reinforces how timely and helpful your post is.

Thanks....and, here's to health, long life, and much Guild guitar playing. A toast to you, Steffan.

Toni

P.S. It has been medically-proven that guitar playing (or other musical instruments) relieves stress and anxiety....so, we need to do more of it. Music calms the raging beast. :)

AS Grace Slick used to say, "Boy Howdy!" (Meaning hearty agreement)
The world would be a far bleaker place without the comforting sounds of feminine mirth. :D
Sometimes I actually believe they have similar feelings about raging beasts. :D
I'm doubly blessed: I like my girlfriends cooking!
Well maybe except for a couple of the more exotic items, like those ant egg omelettes...

Steffan,
What was/is your HDL level? Your weight/height ratio seems good; any stress factors?

Take care of yourself, buddy. We need Steffan around these parts and besides, you still have that visit to Tejas yet to plan!!

Much like Caviar, the shells are edible. And it does take several thousand to make an omelette, but you don't really have to count 'em out. A couple of thimblefuls does the trick.
To be frank, they remind me of Uni (reproductive organs of the sea urchin). I'm convinced that gari and wasabi were invented to hide the taste of uni. And I don't care WHAT kind of reputation it has, it's not worth the aftertaste, in my humble opinion.
I suspect ant eggs aren't worth the effort either.
:D

That reminds me, you mentioned sardines. I've noticed that it's quite common for 'em to be canned in cotton-seed oil ( ) or soybean oil, neither of which are particularly good for you if I recall correctly.
In fact both those oils are in pretty widespread use and I scan the labels for 'em to avoid 'em.
Do some googling and decide for yourself.
Here's good starter:

Hi Steffan. Sorry to hear about your health issues. Hopefully it's just a minor bump in the road that comes up for all of us every now & again. Some adjustmenta in lifestyle may be necessary but do what you have to do to sort these issues out.

Get a prescription for that Guild Therapy - & get the health insurance to cover it!

Good luck with it all. All the best mate,
Z

Good, you're aware of one of the big myths: trans-fats vs the stuff your body can use.
That's why several years ago "they" found out butter is actually healthier than margarine.
Another big myth is about the cholesterol in eggs: they contain more than enough lecithin to counteract the cholesterol content. For anybody unaware of how to id "trans-fats" on a label, the magic word is "Hydrogenated". If you see it, run, run fast, and far.
It was a processs originally designed to make artificial butter from oil (margarine), and it was found it also preserved the fats and oils so processesd by delaying the oxidation process which makes oils rancid. Problem is, inside your body, it still does the same thing. THAT'S why it sticks to the walls of your arteries, in simplistic terms.
GO forth armed with knowledge and boycott transfats! :D
