Hello all.

First time poster...long time reader.

Great place you have here.

Found you all whilst I was researching an F50R that I have since bought.

Lovely 1980 model which I must say is my first "Real" acoustic I've owned.
I think it may have spoiled me for life!!
A mighty fine guitar I must say!!

I picked up some good stuff from here all ready and seen some awesome sights.

I now have my F50R loaded with John Pearse medium strings (thanks to all the good words spoken here) and even though I've normally been a bit of a baby when it came to strings (light's if not extra-lights) I can truly hear the benefit of these strings on a good guitar.

I love the way that light picking and the way these things are made just make you want to play.

Will come back with pictures soon but I'm sure you all know what they look like.

Welcome from Newsyland, Vintage52.

Fortunately, most of the minds here have been liberated from their brown paper bags !

Thank you Coastie.

Am surely envious of where you live. Been there several times and loved every visit.

And thanks to all you others for the warm welcome.

Feels like coming home... :D

Hi Vintage
If your old enough to remember that old song you just found the right forum. :)
Yesterday I got a 79 F50 maple version in the mail. Will post pics when I can put the thing down long enough to take a few pictures. What a great sound.
I've been playing it against the 97 JF55 that I found in a pawn shop a couple months ago and also my 2001 D55.
The JF55 should be the same as the old F50R.
I originally thought my D55 was louder with more bass response until I put some medium gauge strings on it and it finally came to life.
I initially had put some Cleartones in the light catagory on it same as on the D55 which I think were recommended.
Stands to reason as there is more wood and air to move.
I wish the "powers that were" saw fit to scallop the braces as was done on my late model D55.
I think they could have pushed the sonic envelope if they had.
Interestingly, the maple F50 has a similar "Jangaly" kind of tone as the D55. Bright with great bass response.
The JF55 has a definite warmer tone all around and a bit less trebly which would be expected from the rosewood and the back bracing.
Would be cool if they brought back a arch back jumbo with rosewood as some of the originals had.
Wonder why they stopped?
How about an archback with scallop bracing?
I don't see anything other than "Custom X" bracing in the currant run of F50s so not sure if they ever did scallop any bracing on that series.
Perhaps it was attempted but didn't pan out as expected.
Anyways, enjoy and welcome to the party.
