Hi, I am newbie to the forum with a question about Guild 12 string guitars...is an f212 a jumbo or does it have to have an XL designation...what is the difference is between these 2 models in build and sound...does the year make a huge difference...ie 1966 verses 1972...Also what is the difference between a f112 and an f212 in build and sound...
Thanks in advance for your responses!

Hi Randy and welcome to LTG. I can't answer your questions but there are people here who can. For these and similar questions, you'll find most answers in Mr. Hans Moust's The Guild Guitar Book which is available retail in shops and all over the web and is just about required reading around here ... again, welcome to LTG! Welcome aboard, 12s'r!

The three models mentioned are all roughly the same shape, spruce over hog. The F-112 has a 15" lower bout, the F-212 is 16", and the F-212XL is a 17" guitar. Some of the XLs have ebony fingerboards. The larger models will put out more sound, the smaller ones may be more brilliant sounding and faster responding.

A 1966 model would have been built in Hoboken, 1972 in Westerly. I doubt there would be any significant difference in quality or sound, but collectors would put a modest premium on a Hoboken Guild.

You have come to the best board I have found for 12 string discussion in general and Guild 12er discussion in particular. Hope you like it here!
