I ran the risk of getting tossed ("NO PHOTOS, PLEASE") just to sneak one in for Tony and TJ and all the rest of JP's fans here (too many to name!) .

As good as his sidemen were/are, the highlight of the evening was John, onstage alone, with a warm/knowing audience and a few of his close "friends" like Donald and Lydia, Sam Stone, Loretta and Rudy, James Lewis, etc. His ongoing salute/tribute to his good buddy, Steve Goodman, Souvenirs, was particularly moving.
He gave the guys a break at the 45-minute mark but he kept going!
Two hours of "Prime Prine!"

The audience was mostly salt and pepper, with more salt than pepper and in some cases....neither. Everyone there knew every intro, all the lyrics, every little subtlety. It was totally sweet!

Encore with Paradise and we all staggered home, with warm memories of a visit by a true icon. They really don't make 'em like John anymore!

**And all I have are memories and this lousy T-shirt. Does the guitar look familiar? It caught my eye! Something about the pickguard, maybe?

Cheers to all,

Kildeer, sounds like it was a great concert. Was Dan Reeder the supporting act? If so what was he like.

He was OK.
I'm not a prude by any stretch and never claimed to be at any point in my life, but I don't warm up to people/performers who throw around 'f bombs' and 's bombs' as part of their monologue/dialogue, for no particular reason. It sort of put a different edge to his music which was, as I said, OK enough.

He does write some pretty offbeat songs and he fits in well with JP, but everyone was there to see JP.

Cheerily,
Joe

Thanks for the reply, Joe. I have never seen him live, just saw him on youtube. I would agree with your thoughts regarding his language. I don`t think that sort of thing is very professional and only takes away from the performance.

He also lent nothing to any semblance of a stage presence in his old jeans, sweatshirt, and baseball cap, while John and his guys looked sharp in their suits and ties. He looked like he might have been one of the roadies filling in for a bit.
My wife pointed out how unprofessional he came across, and someone told me the same thing, today. He wondered, "Who was that guy that opened for John Prine Monday night?"
Oh well, as long as he was comfy!

But it's all good when the dust settles,
Joe

I saw the same concert. It was quite entertaining. Especially when the stage hand tripped on the cord and sent the mandolin flying.

John's lyrics sometimes don't make much sense but then he can just crush you with just one line, such as "There's a hole in Daddy's arm where all the money goes". Powerful! I've heard that song hundreds of times before but hearing him sing it Monday night brought a tear to my eye.

Thanks for the pic Joe. It's been a week now since I saw him and still can't forget the solo part of the show. I thought he was a little rough on the first couple of songs, but he was shining when it was just him and his guitar. Hope he doesn't fall over one of these days when he get's his leg going when he's strumming hard on the Gibson. :)

My sentiments exactly.
I've always been into John's lyrics so I'd enjoy a laid back, acoustic show. Maybe a comfy chair and a Guild? That would be very nice.
*Somewhat similar to my feelings about Dylan.

Lyrics freak, I am,
