I ran the risk of getting tossed ("NO PHOTOS, PLEASE") just to sneak one in for Tony and TJ and all the rest of JP's fans here (too many to name!) .
As good as his sidemen were/are, the highlight of the evening was John, onstage alone, with a warm/knowing audience and a few of his close "friends" like Donald and Lydia, Sam Stone, Loretta and Rudy, James Lewis, etc. His ongoing salute/tribute to his good buddy, Steve Goodman, Souvenirs, was particularly moving.
He gave the guys a break at the 45-minute mark but he kept going!
Two hours of "Prime Prine!"
The audience was mostly salt and pepper, with more salt than pepper and in some cases....neither. Everyone there knew every intro, all the lyrics, every little subtlety. It was totally sweet!
Encore with Paradise and we all staggered home, with warm memories of a visit by a true icon. They really don't make 'em like John anymore!
**And all I have are memories and this lousy T-shirt. Does the guitar look familiar? It caught my eye! Something about the pickguard, maybe?
Cheers to all,
Joe
