That's sad news. I never had the pleasure of meeting the man, but his reputation in the music community was astounding. Personally, the JP strings are all I use, and I'll be buying a few sets today or tomorrow just to send a tiny message upstairs in tribute.

I met him one time, maybe 15-18 years ago at a show. He gently informed me that a pre-war 018 Martin I had for sale had a 'replaced fingerboard'. He was right, too; thicker than an original. He'd seen a bunch of 'em and I'd seen, well, one!

John was one of those guys who knew a lot about a lot of things. Adios, Mr. Pearse.
