uh-oh....hope he doesn't make a habit of that, or the reasonable Guild prices are done with for yet another model!

MAN can he play!!
You really think so? It's good playing, of course, but I don't think it's all thàt special - the average blues bar or festival has at least one guy who can play rings around him IMO, and it's a little "clean" and controlled for my taste.
And the way he sings on this tune is painful SRV idolatry as far as I'm concerned, a little embarrassing I think.

Damn...he's such a DB, but MAN can he play!!

He is in my top 5 of annoying artists.

I watched him on Austin City Limits once. Hardly any of the band mates seemd like they liked the gig. I think that ol John May er may not (enunciate) is a DB. There is a guy that plays like that in every GC I go to. Wankery

Oh, he's a schmuck for sure. He will do an album with one or two blues numbers to get you hooked, and then rip off Tom Petty with "Free Fallin'", and the rest is tunes to pick up chicks with....

And what, exactly, is wrong with "tunes to pick up chicks with"? I wish I knew more of them before I was a geezer...

hmmm..... looks like I woke up a sleeping monster of resentment for JM. For the record, I'm not particularly fond of his songs and singing, but love his tone.

I thought the whole point of learning to play the guitar was so you could pick up chicks ... :?

Regarding John Mayer in general, I say give the kid a break. He's young, famous, handsome and rich. He'll probably get over himself someday. He isn't that much different than say, Frank Sinatra at that age. Pretty tame compared to Jim Morrison. Young Johnny Cash? Hank Williams or Lefty Frizzell? The early years of say, Miles Davis or John Coltrane? Is he as talented as any of those? A lot of great musicians come on the scene as one trick ponies, and evolve from that. John has already shown more than one trick, so who knows where it will take him.

As a blues player, I agree with Walter, he is pretty ordinary. But he is exposing a new generation to music they probably wouldn't hear otherwise.

People who expect musicians to be great role models are bound to be disappointed.

All in all, it's just another brick in the wall.

I could care less for his off stage antics. That doesn't bother me. I guess I just don't care for his phrasing, singing or tone. BUT!!!!! My opinion shouldn't influence others. My main reasoning is I don't see nor hear the fire or conviction. He plays like a University musician. I went to school for music and a lot of the Professors could play jazz and blues, but it sounded like repetition. Musical Quoting..... It is one of the reasons I lost interest for studying music at a college.

Anyways he has great chops and pretty good tone. I thought the compression was set too heavy for that performance. He is a fantastic player. I hate him.

I don't hate him but he doesn't do much for me. I'm missing the soul and heart, maybe BB could lend him some... the vocals were a fairly good impression of SRV.

Anyway, I thought the Starfire sounded great! That vintage blues guitar tone I know and love. BUT, in the few closeups of the guitar that I could see, the pickup looked like it had a flat cover. I thought it might be a Gibson '57 classic and it kinda sounded like one to me too. The pics went by pretty quick though so I'd love to hear what anybody else thinks about that.

Too funny! After dating all those famous chicks, it's a wonder he has any energy left to play his guitar...
