Hi everybody, this is my first post here!

I'm wondering what are the differences soundwise between the JF4 and JF30 (i'm looking to buy a jumbo). I know the jf30 is maple side/back and the JF4 is mahogany side/back but does it really sound different? I also noticed the used JF4 is selling for way less than the JF30, i'm wondering why because they seems to be similar instrument.

thanks

bbb, I'm by no means an expert on these models, but I have played them both and I can assure you the JF-30 is in a different class. No disrespect to the JF-4 (it is, after all, a Westerly Guild) but I used to own a Gibson SJ-200 (2001 model made in Bozeman) and it had nothing, absolutely nothing on the JF-30's I've played. I think you're basically looking at some nicer materials, upgraded bracing, binding, headstock inlay, 3 piece maple neck, etc. on the JF-30. I wouldn't be surprised if the spruce top on the JF-30 is a higher grade as well. Another thing that benefits the JF-30 is that there is just something special about tonal qualities associated with a jumbo body style and maple back/sides. Excellent for live performance, outstanding for recording. Guess I have a thing for blondes with curves.
