Basically I think it's just the trim and perhaps the F might have a 'AAA' top where the JF would have a 'AA' top.

The F would have the 'G' shield, bound fretboard, block position markers. There maybe a few more things like that but I believe the superstructure is the same.

Great guitars, both.

The JF30 also has a rosewood fretboard and bridge
That's true, although I think there are some F-50s out there with rosewood bridges. No rosewood fretboards though, to my knowledge. A lot of differences in the trim level between the two models, but functionally they're very similar. In fact, I don't know if there's any difference at all in bracing or shape of the box.

You're right, this is definitely a case where you're paying for cosmetic differences. I'm pretty sure you're right about the bracing. And the difference between a AA and AAA top is hard to quantify from one example to another.

Tradition says that an ebony fretboard and bridge (F-50) gives a guitar a little brighter tone than rosewood (F-30).

TJ, got pix? Would like to see. I didn't realize that was ever part of the JF-30...
looks like this. In fact, it is my first Guild, purchased based upon the recommendations of crazed members of a popular Guild guitar forum I stumbled across about a year and a half ago :D Dates to 1999.

Oooh, that's real nice, TJ. Tnx!

I wonder when they switched to ebony? My JF-30-12 is a 1994:

Sorry to highjack the thread but what soundhole pickup do you have there and are you managing to get an even level across all 12 strings? Thinking about a K&K PWM soundhole combo in my f412 with the mag mainly for feedback risky situations and perhaps to add a little extra bass.
Thanks, and apologies again for the highjack.

Regarding the pickup, its a Dean Marly "Tahoe". It was on the guitar when I got it and yes, it has even sound across all strings. I play it through a SWR Strawberry Blonde and it has a great "jangle" to the sound.
