Do you have a picture you can post?

Thanks!
Craig
Of my closet?

*snicker*

I'd actually love to see a picture of a closet full of Starfires although up close and personal shots of the individual basses would be even cooler.

That said, if you email pictures then I will post, as before.

Of my closet?
I know its a wearysome thing to get an image of the Alembicized bass guitar. But can you do a friend a favor and post me one (of the Alembic Starfire bass)? I'm negotiable, you can omit the closet, or any family pets.

That Alembic stuff was so cool. Do you know what the closest comparible item is in my area? Its Mark Farner's original off brand spray painted electric guitar (complete with vintage 1969 duct tape still on). This guitar was shown on some of the Grand Funk album covers.

By the way is anyone around here on LTG willing to admit they got that black 1969 SF2 bass off ebay this week. I have snagged a few more Guild 12 strings lately, and need room to walk around the house, thus it was not me that got that Starfire.

I'm not compulsive about buying Guild 12 stings, BUT you need one tuned to standard pitch, a different one tuned to open C, then yet another 12 string tuned to one or another of Jimmy Paige's tunings...

But there are already pictures of it here. Its the same one.

BTW, contrary to popular delusion, its not really patterned on the Casady mod, either of them. Its closer to the Lesh mod.

If you're talking about the bass discussed here you can read about how it is now "in the family"?

Guild never made a 12 string bass so you must be tired and posting without thinking or thinking of Hamer

Dan - I've changed that line on my page, so as not to be a perpetuator of web misinformation/delusion  .

After I bought the bass (from the 2nd owner), I tracked down the original owner & he told me that he had sent it to Alembic & asked for a bass patterned on the Casady Starfires. After a conversation or two with Jack at FPR, I realized that wasn't what he actually got (altho what he did get is great - I could see blowing a speaker with it - once I had the temerity to chain it though a rack Superfilter as well...).

And as Dan said - there are eight pictures of the bass on my page - I doubt it has changed much in the few years it has been sitting in California!

Here again is the link to the pics: http://music.jeffersoncampervan.com/AlembicStarfire.html

Oh, that bass. That looks like an exciting piece. Something that maybe Captain Kurk might play on the Starship Enterprise, if there are indeed actually sufficient controls on it there.

By the way Jack and Phil seemed to be 2 different kinds of bass players. I still wonder how Jack did it, but he usually played some keen lead bass stuff, and it fit in great.

Lesh had classical training. Jack did the "pay your dues in the clubs" thing since he was a teenager and his heroes were jazz players. You know how those guys are, always trying to make obnoxious sounds, as Frank Zappa would say.
From what I can think of off the top of my head, I think Phil tried to get a fuller smoother undistorted "traditional" tone, while Jack was always looking for new ways to stretch the "tone" envelope with various methods of distortion.
I loved it to death. :D

Yes. I bought the first 3 Airplane albums when quite young, defraying all of my net worth to do it. Then I showed them off all over the neighborhood, whereby making lots of other converts. Those were the days.

No more sugar cubes for you or me.

Yeah, just send 'em my way and I'll dispose of them.
Airfreight via Trans Love Airways?
Homing in on the broadcast signal from Radio EXP?
Spaceships and even space people?
Well, as you all know you just can't believe everything you see and hear, can you?
Now if you'll excuse me, I must be on my way.....
Dang sugarcubes messin' with my bladder.
:?
