I'm thinking about picking this up, but it just doesn't quite look right... Any thoughts?

dane,

I think there is a bit of 'forced perspective' in the photograph....making its shape seem a bit off.
I would have no reservation in either trusting or dealing with the seller. I think he knows a thing or two about most (or all) things Guild!

It looks like the small pickguard from a Bluesbird.

The strange thing is that there aren't any pick-up notches. Usually that's only seen on "A"-coustic archtops. Also, it looks like there's only one mounting screw hole.

If you look in the way top right you can see the other screw hole, but it seems out of place. It almost looks like the top of the pickguard was cut off by the picture. This is probably why you can't see the cut outs for the pickups. Unless the pickguard is actually cut like that?

I agree there's something wrong with the shape of that pickguard - it looks like it would come out at an odd angle...

Well if it's 8" long it's a full size pickguard.

Therefore, it must be off an 60's "A"coustic Archtop.

Here's a 70's "A"coustic Archtop; (Note later logo)

Hans, you're killing me.

Hey Dane,

That's what happens to me on a regular basis, so I know how you feel.
I'm actually surprised about the final price, knowing that another less desirable pickguard fetched a lot more not too long ago:

I would not have payed that much but on the right guitar these are worth quite a bit.

By the way, what did you need it for? Maybe I can help you with another one.

Sincerely,

Maybe it helps making you feel better when you know what I need the pickguard for:

Since the DeArmond pickups have a different shape, a regular Starfire pickguard will not do the job, so I need one that doesn't have the cutouts yet.

Sincerely,
