Hey, all. Long time lurker here, first time poster. I figured without anything worthwhile to contribute I would just quietly lurk, listen and learn, which I have. Still so much to learn, though. There’s obviously a wealth of knowledge here and at this point I’d like to tap into the collective wisdom this forum offers.
Just to give some background, I’ve been playing guitar on and off for about 40 years, first being inspired by the Beatles. Throughout most of that time my enthusiasm has waxed and waned along with my skills. Over the past couple of years I’ve had a renewed enthusiasm. I’ve been able to learn new techniques and skills via the internet that were otherwise unavailable to me in the “olden days“. In fact, the very reason I’ve developed an affinity for Guilds is this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZ1Ldj254hM and this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-JgkFA6WFnY After listening to the phenomenal tone of those 12 strings, I was hooked. That’s when I started lurking here, after which I ended up finding a bargain on a F-512 through eBay. I was so impressed with the tone and playability it wasn't long before I jumped on another eBay bargain on a D-55. Okay…I know many of you are wary at the idea of not trying before you buy. But during my search, these models were simply nowhere to be found in any of the local music stores. Plenty of GAD models, but no high-ends except for the usual Taylor, Martin, Gibson, etc. My decision to bid on these was a leap of faith and to a large extent, based on information from this forum. I’ve had no regrets, so far. Which brings me to my point. I’m looking at maybe (emphasis on maybe) adding a jumbo 6-string and found this: http://cgi.ebay.com/USA-Guild-F-50-Jumb ... 7C294%3A50 It’s a Corona Guild, but I get the impression the Coronas seem to carry somewhat of a stigma. My understanding is the resale on these is not as high as a Westerly or Tacoma. The seller is asking what I would expect for a used Westerly or Tacoma. So, I’m trying to get a feel of whether that represents a fair price, given it’s condition and where it was made. It looks purty in those pictures. But, there’s that little voice in my head that says “buyer beware”. That same voice is also asking “How would I explain this to my wife?“ :?
Input please.
Thanks in advance.
