Is It Weird To Be Sad?

This is going to sound weird, but I had been watching a Recording King RO-M9M on Reverb. It was used, it was listed for $250, and had been discounted to $225, and I wanted to buy it but can't justify 1) buying yet another guitar (although it's a mahogany b/s and I don't have one of those) and 2) even at $225, it's still money. I was going to make an offer of $200 and if the guy accepted, then it must be fate, right?

Well, sometime this week, someone purchased it. The listing is no longer active. There is now an emptiness in my heart that nothing else can quench. *sigh*

But seriously, I've only ever owned rosewood guitars. I think I need a mahogany instrument.

I agree and keep your eyes peeled. That did sound like an excellent deal if guitar had no major issues.
There will be others.

For that kind of money I would've just bought it. You can always sell it later if you don't like it. I felt bad for the guy that first contacted me on my Breedlove. He wanted it so bad but he was pumping money into his business to stay afloat and i guess in one months time, then he'd be okay. I answered all his questions and told him good luck. Then that one guy hit the BUY button and it was gone. He contacted me and said congrats on the sale, but DAMN I wanted that guitar!!! When they get above $500 I start reviewing my motives, and above $1000 really having a serious talk with myself. I wish you'd bought it. Totally selfish of me, but I'd get to read a NGD!!! Life is full of missed opportunities.......

The good news is that there will always be another great guitar to come along when it’s meant to be.

I remember more of the deals that got away than I do the purchases that were mistakes. The mistakes you get rid of quickly and figure you paid a few dollars towards your education. The missed ones haunt you forever. And you kick yourself for trying to cheap out on something you might have spent many years enjoying.

There will be others, don't worry. Plus, there will the ones that fall into your lap when you least expect it and you have the money for it. Those kind of deals, for me, make up for the ones that got away. :)

Wanna talk about sad?

I still kick myself for selling the EIR F-312....dummy!

One of my favorite lines is:

How can I make so many mistakes in one day???

I get up early!

OK, I think I'm not sad anymore.

It's funny. I don't know if I really wanted the guitar. I mean, an all-solid-wood guitar, a concert cousin to the RD-M9M, which I bought for a friend, for around $250 - what's not to love? If I really really wanted it, I would've pulled the trigger.

I think it's like when I broke up with my girlfriend in college, and we stayed friends and kept in touch, and even though I was the one who ended the relationship against her wishes, a few months later when she told me she was starting to see this great guy she met in med school, who was ex-military and really fit and into outdoor activities and also really nice and a complete gentleman, there was a part of my gut that wrenched itself in agony. It's weird. I didn't want to be in a relationship anymore, but I had trouble handling the thought of her in another relationship.

I didn't want the guitar THAT much. I just couldn't handle the thought of it now being someone else's.

Stupid. I know.

Just to do my part in attempting to relieve your pain jcwu, I did experience one of them (RO-127) after being wowed by the price considering the components (solid wood being one of them), and my observation was that their best feature was the look. Beautiful wood and finish, more than decent craftsmanship, but it's only flaw was.......... no sound. Cardboard like resonance.
Kind of a bummer if you ask me.
It came and went. (I had no trouble getting the little bit of money I had put in it, back in my pocket though)

Thanks, that helps!

I find myself enamoured with the Recording King guitars, particularly the M9M series, because wife of a friend asked if a CostCo Fender guitar might be a good instrument to buy for her husband (his other acoustic somehow bit the dust). I convinced her to do no such thing, and to give me some time to search for a proper guitar.

I went to Starving Musician (local not-quite-chain music store) and tried out all the cheaper guitars, and was really blown away by the RD-M9M. Bought it, brought it home, set it up, and... she didn't want to give it to him until Christmas. So I had the guitar for about a month, and ended up really bonding with it. It's definitely no Guild, but I found myself picking it up very often just to bang out a few strums every now and then, and I found myself actually noodling around more, and exploring new sonic territories. Who'd have thought a under-$300 guitar would find such love in my hands?? And the best part - matte finish!!

With the current stay at home situation, I've left my DV52 out on a stand, and I find my daughter frequently picking it up to play. Maybe I need to stop treating the Guilds as trophies and just play them more. :) Who needs another guitar, right?

It sounds like you have the premise for a song here (as if that song hasn't been written already).
