Was at gc last night to pick up some springs for a strat. From my view from the register there were 13 people on the store...11 were gc employees. Took 20 minutes to ring me up correctly...finally the manager sent me on my way with more than double the change due me. Every time I go in there they are more screwed up than the last time....

Just sayin

Guitar Center recently restructured their massive debt, but in reality that just kicked the can down the road a bit and they're far from healthy. For longer term health, they need to close some stores, and streamline their business model. Whether they actually will is another matter.

The GC near my office is staffed with good people, and is easily one of the best ones I've been to. Can't say the same about a lot of others I've been to.

I think they're in trouble. If they don't have something in stock, I can actually order it online and get it quicker than they can gt it in the store. It might take a week or so for them to get it in the store. Then, of course I would still have to go to the store and pick it up. I order it from them (or their ilk MF, WWBW, M123) and I get it in 2-3 days and it's delivered to my doorstep. You would think though, that they could get it to the store just as fast as I could order it.

I hope they hang in there - the stores near me are run well and I enjoy going in there.

I am fortunate to have a few not far away and they are all great stores with nice folks. I have a good pal that move to Ft. Myers, Fl and is now an assistant manager there. A job he really needed. He loves it and says they treat their employees very well.

I read recently where GC purchased an celebrity owned guitar for $500,000.00 not long ago. Seems to me that sort of thing is not helping their bottom line.

I'm with Sandy, in that the local (Town Square) GC by me is a really GREAT store staffed by fairly knowledgeable and helpful people. It's a good example of what they have to offer. And like walrus, I hope they get it together and hang in there. I would really miss that store if it closed!

...this thread reminded me when my son bought a galien kruger head and 4x10 cab. they had one on the floor at guitar center...$750 total. he played it, liked it, so he bought it. they wheeled out the floor model for him to take, and i said "no, we want unopened cartons". they said they only had one left and it was the floor model, and even though it was a bit worn here and there they wouldn't discount (wouldn't have taken it anyway). they said they could order one, so we did up the paper work, and there was an additional $175 on the bill. i asked what that was for, and they said "shipping"

we walked out, went to another local music shop and bough the same rig for $490 new, unopened cartons. turns out they weren't carrying galien kruger any longer and were discounting their remaining stock.

Easy answer there Tom. Most Guitar Centers are like that. The one by my office (Commack) is great. The other on Long Island (Carle Place) is awful.

..he said keep it for your wasted time. Apparently my time is worth $4.60/hr.
Am I to understand you're griping about being overpaid?
:greedy_dollars: :abnormal: :boxing:
(on a serious note though, that guy obviously "gets it" and will hopefully be one of the "keepers".)

I wonder how many guitars get dinged or scratched in GC's, given how little supervision staff maintain over their acoustic rooms, pretty much everywhere I go.

I have spent hours in GC playing all of their high-end stuff without anyone saying "boo" to me. Not that I'm complaining.

The same experience here - the GC near Scranton PA is great, the one near Binghamton NY is one of the worst shopping experiences I've ever had, of any kind!

I live about half-way between the two. Anybody want to guess which one gets my business?
