Guy has a tremendous catalog. Just like Prine, he gets better over the years and his early work is timeless. His first couple of albums I played over and over and over again back in the 70's.
Enjoy, but don't start smoking again!

LA Freeway always gets 'em rockin' for me! I think a lot of him and his music.
On top of being one of the great writers, and a friend of Townes, I understand he's buidling his own guitars now... Man, I want to BE Guy Clark. :D

This is why I like to listen to live albums.Kristofferson mentions Prine>Earle>Townes>Shaver>Todd Snider>Clark. Snider's version of LA Freeway(which stunk) led me to Guy's version(which was magic). No smoking, but a well-placed Southern Comfort and Coke never hurts anyone.

Let me steer this veer back to the beginning. Just saw Guy Clark & Verlon Thompson last Friday night. Those fellas have a real presence. I'd been aware of Guy since Jerry Jeff's first album, early 70's, with L.A. Freeway on it and have never seen him perform before now. I have no doubt I will again, real soon. And Verlon is the real deal too. His picking is just amazing. Not just fast, but very tasteful. If they come your way, you need to see them. Guy is looking a bit aged, so do it soon in the next few years. Also saw (this was at the River City Music festival in Portland, OR) Peter Rowan. A name that was on the edge of my radar until now. Just excellent.

Great songwriter. I used to do a few of his songs, should probably work them up again. Let Him roll was a favorite of mine, although almost all of them are superb.
