Re: I’m in shock!

The pre-war Peugots had it going on ... not sure how fast they were but nothing wrong with the coachwork ... again with the suicide doors:

Edit: I pulled the links too. Got a weird message from Mo(Guild)Zilla about attack sites ... cool pics but they weren't that cool. Truth is, all pre-war cars ... domestic or Euro are pretty cool. J

Edited: My virus scanner strongly objects to the site hosting the photos. It is probably something that has attacked prewarcar.com rather than prewarcar.com being malicious but in the interest of internet safety I have edited the post so that the image does not automatically load. For the moment, click on the link at your own risk. Fronobulax

You know Al, growing up in France (and in Le Mans, one of the world's capitals of auto racing) I always thought: Why do we suck at car building?.... And it's not like we can't build an engine, look at the F1 records of Renault..... But for some reason we stayed stuck on this post world war II approach of building the most economical car possible without the slightest concern for design appeal. So for the top of the line models (which had to be somewhat appealing for a buyer to accept the price tag) we had Pinifarina design the body!
As a car guy (and F1 fan although a Ferrari loyalist),
I gotta help you regain pride in your national automotive heritage wth 2 names:
Bugatti, and.......

Re: I’m in shock!

Anything made by Valco has become hip and expensive ever since Jack White of the White Stripes got famous with his Airline (made by Valco) guitar - and while these two on Ebay might sell for that price - don't confuse "asking prices" for "sold" prices - maybe look for some completed auctions on these for a realistic price view.

I can just see those french guys saluting Porsche with one hand raised in the air and the other palm slapped over the bicep  ....

If I have my Porsche history correct, I recall that Pukejoe had already done this once to Ferdie. Seems that the 911 was to be, originally, the 901. Pukejoe somehow managed to prevent this, claiming that they held the mortgage on car designations featuring a zero in the middle.

I rememember that! Even though I was actually thinking of the Renault guys and the engine turned out to be watercooled anyway. But we all know how close the frogs and the boche are!

:D I've always said there are certain cars that even if someone gave me one, I'd sell it and buy something I really wanted. Or at least could afford to maintain. These days I love the low profile performance image. Out of that group I'd keep the Bentley...IF...

I know that veers on LTG are inevitable, and I have to admit that I’ve done it myself; but geesh people, you completely hijacked this thread from old guitars to old cars!

Have you never noticed the similarites? All original parts or upgraded replacements? Original paint or refinish? Just 'cause it's rare is it valuable? Who played (raced) 'em ? What's the competition heritage: Did it win at LeMans or open Woodstock? Are certain colors more desirable, Seafoam Green vs French competition yellow for example.... How do you know it's a true Westerly and not one of those kit guitars? And how long will it be before the collector's market recovers?
Hey waitaminnit I didn't see you went and deleted all your original posts...but I don't think your original point was diminished or made irrelevant. In any case sincere apologies are offered if they're acceptable. :(

I say start a thread about old cars.

Ever notice how old cars and old guitars are so appreciated ...not always old girlfriends or old leftovers, but speaking of old cars, I really regret selling this D35 that I had a few years ago, i remember it well because It sounded really nice even next to my F50R. I think I was driving a sprint at time, had to fix the transmission, then the motor went out, but that F50R hardly ever went out....it always seemed to be tuned up.... :? Steffan

Hi Dane; I posted a Dinky Toy on eBay in this thread ... in parallel with your remarks about old Reso guitars now going for big money. After that ... well ... it all started going sideways in a hurry. Anyway ... I apologize for my part.
