If you could only keep one guitar, which one?

The only Guild I have ever owned I will put up to any of my other guitars, Granted it's also the only steel string acoustic I own but I've been an electric player also, still If I had to choose only one guitar it would be my 1979 Guild D-55. I had it rebraced due to a belly buldge and he tap tuned the top while he was at it, giving it a beautiful tone. So though it's not exactly stock it is the best sounding and playing acoustic guitar I have ever known and would not dare replace it. With electronics intalled it makes a great gigging axe too. Looks great, plays great, don't cost too much. Anybody else care to explore such sobering thoughts in time of cutbacks?

To be honest, I don't think I have it yet.

I think it would be the size and shape of the GF25 but I'm not 100% sure of the wood composition yet. I've been going from the DV52 to the JF30 for weeks now for the different tones and now that the GF is here I really like the size of it. The sound is very good, but for a one and only guitar I don't think mahogany does it for me. Rosewood or Maple would be my top 2, but the top of the heap, I just don't know yet.

An easy decision... but tough to do. I'd have to keep the '72 D-35 I bought in Jan '73... my first Guild.

If I could only keep two, I would also hold onto my '81 D-46... it's probably my most versatile Guild, in terms of the different styles I play (and, if it wasn't for the emotional bond with my D-35, it would be the D-46 I would keep as the "only").

I have to agree with Walter. If I could only keep one Guild, it would be his.

I'll take the talent too.

What's the difference between the GFs and the F-47s?
By the way, i just love the size and shape of my F body guitars, probably the CV-2C most of all due to the narrower depth ... very, very comfortable.

As to which would be the one to keep, i don't have the answer yet: keep going back and forth between the contemporary maple and traditional rosewood bodies to decide preference, but find i like both a lot.

It would be my D-64. But I am already down to two guitars, which is where I am going to stay. I just sold the last (but two) of my Guilds, trying to help pay for my oldest son's college. Tough, but necessary.

This might become tough......

Hmmmmm.....

From a sentimentality perspective, I'd keep my only Guild...the 69 Studio 302 that's been with me since new.

All of my other guitars have been acquired this year, so I have not grown so attached to them (yet).

From a practicality perspective, I think I'd make the same choice. My Ovation is better acoustically but I don't play acoustic all that much. The EBMM's....well the sub 1 could easily go....the Axis is currently my #1 performance guitar.....but the Guild could do what it does. Just not as small. I guess it would still be the old Studio 302 to keep.

Oh....and if I were in such a bind that all those guitar had to go, the Cobra, racecar, snowmobile and boat would all be gone first.

My '86 F-44 would be the one. I bought it new. Its sound is my sound. There is a level of attachment that no other guitar - no matter how cool - can approach.

FWIW, this is the third 80's Gruhn/Walker acoustic cited already, the fourth if you count Grahamster who admits being on the fence.

Gee, Bub, I've got enough bad things to think about without having to imagine getting rid of a Guild

I suppose it would be my '98 DV-52...

At this time: myfirstguild
At the moment I don't own any serious competitors - that might change due to GAS attacks …

That's the one I'd keep too. I think mine might be a '97. Love that thing to bits (literally).
