Hi Barbara; thanks for the link and the read. 'Pick it up / put it down' ... that's how I learned everything on the Byrds' My Back Pages more than a few years earlier ... btw; maybe we need a thread on the sex of guitars; I noted that JT though his was a he ... Scratch's guitars are all hes (I think?) ... but some players think of their guitars as shes ... :? Thanks again. John

I didn't know guitars had sex. I'm a little worried now about leaving my '67 and '71 F-50Rs out on their stands at night now.

Well ... they apparently have gender ... if they didn't have sex, what difference would it make which gender they were? Strike that ... forgot ... this is the new era ...  Besides; isn't guitar sex where Baby Taylors, baby Jumbos, and parlor guitars come from?

I've been trying to get the Astro Jet and a Tele to breed, but so far, no luck.

Nice read, Ms. B!

edit All my guitars are probably female, because nothing is as painful as a woman's scorn.

Hey, Barb, did the F-312 seem like a jumbo to you? It wasn't, was it? I thought the F-312 was a concert-sized axe... Man, that must've sucked having that stolen from you. I guess the good news is that you got the F-512 to replace it. Now, that must've seemed absolutely gargantuan, eh? :D

Hi Chaz,
At the time, the F-312 seemed absolutely huge. I didn't realize that it wasn't a bona-fide jumbo until about 2 years ago. Nevertheless, for the sake of the writing, I left its description as "jumbo," rather than go into some unimportant detail about its measurements.

Interestingly, the 512 seemed not so much *bigger* as HEAVIER. It is a HUGELY heavy guitar, especially by comparison with my Lowden and Chris' Martin.

Thanks for sharing some very personal moments from your life.

Seems like the music (via your Guilds) helped to get you through...I admire your resilience.

Heavy indeed, Barb. Guild surely knows how to build a hunk-a-chunk o' lumber! :) I find my Hoboken F-50R to be rather heavy too, by the way, at least in comparison to my '71 Westerly. I was wondering if that was due to the laminate back/sides rather than (maybe) thinner solid woods... Maybe not, since yours is solid.

Gee, I guess I'll be the first one to comment on your picture. Yeah, you look like a hippie alright, and like every long-haired beauty I was infatuated with back then (I graduated in '72 :D ) A hippie chick with a special Guild 12-string? Man, does it get any better than that?

Nice read, Barbara. Keep pickin'!

Thanks. I thought the story was well written and told. That kind of craftsmanship with words is rare in the blogosphere.

HS picture brough back a strong sense of deja vu.

I read the comment about the 86 year old cello player (at the Eastman Theater, presumably in Rochester NY) and then saw this LTG thread and for a moment wondered if the cellist was the source of the wisdom :)
